I took this scenic drive on my visit to the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden (which should be included in your drive). It was certainly a switch from the highway and definitely off the beaten path. Among the highlights on this narrow, shrouded "pathway" through the...More

We took this little drive off the beaten path. There were some great views, fascinating foliage and bridges. The views from the bridges were spectacular!

North of Hilo on highway 19 is a road sign which simply reads ‘Scenic Drive’ (Hawaiians are notorious for poorly marking their roads). Reduce your speed as you travel along a spectacular winding drive through primordial forest which will absolutely re-set any standard of beauty...More

Not an easy drive very narrow with limited passing places but what amazing views of the ocean , impressive waterfalls, and lush tropical vegetation. Well worth the rough road trip.

See locals selling coconuts. Don't take a nice car down the muddy, broken roads. Keep the windows up ... the mosquitos are hungry!

This is a short drive just west of Hilo, through beautiful rainforest and over spectacular valleys. Drive slowly to enjoy the sights, and watch out for the one-car bridges.

Took this scenic drive as an alternative to the main road. Very pretty but not much opportunity to park and enjoy the view.

The scenic drive (public road) and hike from the lookout are both free.
