Located just beyond downtown Hilo and on the Bay, this park is a lovely spot for a morning or afternoon walk.

One of the most beautiful beaches on the island! Beautiful views of the open ocean with crashing waves, as well as numerous protected spots for wading and swimming in the refreshing, but not cold water. Lots of sunning on the beach going on too. The...More

Really neat spot for snorkelling and hanging out!! We climbed on the rocks and walked through the more shallow/calm waters. It isn't a huge area but really unique and lots of fish to see.

Beautiful place. Hawaii has done great with this park by allowing the water to flow in and back out into the bay. Again, close to airport. Someone told me it was 40 minutes away from airport, turned out to be down the street AND HE...More

I come here usually when I come home, love this park and the area has food and such to the side of the hotel if you just want to spend the day with the family at the beach :)

There is a large area of beaches but the locals make it exceedingly clear that you are not welcome anywhere except a tiny triangular area that they press all the tourists into. I would never go back!

We enjoyed snorkeling this beach 2 years ago. Saw lots of fish and turtles. When we were there a couple weeks ago surf was too high. Still enjoyed watching waves crashing.

This are has super easy entry into the water, steps down. Good for snorkeling, very calm water. There is not much of a sand beach, mostly lava rock, but plenty of shade is you get there early.

There's a life guard. Ask him where to swim, what to avoid and where the fish hang. He knows and can help. Otherwise enjoy a lovely beach with a reef system and tons of fish. There's a shower and bathrooms, plus a remote police station.

I agree with the first two answers above. You don't need to worry about a tour bus, the local bus does run there, but not on Sundays. Just look up the bus schedule online. Or when you get to Hilo you can call the bus company... More
