This little island I am told us to hold a Dance Hall that was a favorite of the people many years ago The tsunami took care of that and now it is a little park with tables, a bit of a sandy beach and wonderful views.

Folks are walking, kids are swimming, families are having a picnic. What a terrific spot for a view of Hilo across the bay and the incredible gardens in the middle of the park. Soak in the warm afternoon glow.

This little park is also known as Moku ola -- a place of healing and remnants of the old healing site are still there such as steps of lava stone leading to the waters. Today it serves as a place for family fun. A lovely bridge connects the island to the larger park it is part of, and the view... More

We stayed across from this island at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. It was a short walk to the local park. The weekend we were visited there was a lot of family parties, families swimming, and some just relaxing under the big trees. The water is very clear to go swimming. Many people like to fish off the bridge over to... More

Our hotel was directly across from this and by chance a Ultra Marathon was staring from this island our first morning in Hilo. We ventured out in the dark and as the sun came up we were simply amazed at how pretty this place was. It has some parking and portapotties in the parking lot - you cross a bridge... More

This was a very clean place. Lots of coconut trees around, so the name coconut island :) Few trees were marked red borders to keep a track of the last tsunami water hits. Quite shocking experience!!!

Very small but seems to be popular for teens. Did see a Manta Ray in the water. The water is very clear. Short bridge that crosses over the water to the very small island.

Coconut Island is smaller than I thought but still worth the quick stop. Beautiful views, great place for young kids to swim, even a platform people are using for jumping into the water at the end. Access for everyone to enjoy its beauty.

Coconut Island is a small island linked to Liliuokalani Gardens through a pedestrian footbridge. It is believed by ancient Hawaiian people that sick people can get healed by swimming around the eastern inlet of the island. There are a few picnic tables there to relax, enjoy the views of Hilo Bay and peaceful Liliuokalani Gardens. There is a shallow natural... More

This is one of my favorite places in Hilo. Its official name is Moku Ola, which means healing island, and its a great spot for that. You get there by crossing a footbridge. There are several swimming areas, a large grassy area where people play frisbee and gymnastics/parkour type acrobatics. Tons of local people fishing and setting up canopies to... More
