Beautiful place to snorkel, there is a big drop off which may attract larger fish/dolphins. The cliff like face is great. We tried snuba here and had a blast. Couple of key things to understand:the hike in is painful it is hot and steep better way to go is to kayak across the bay or go with a tour company... More

First we took a boat trip to snorkel around Captain Cook/Kalekekua Bay. It was beautiful, and we wanted to see more. Plus, by boat, you are not allowed to go on land. So the next day, we hiked in. We wore tennis shoes & brought water, snacks, and sunscreen. The hike down was gorgeous, walking between farms at the upper... More

During our stay on the Big we rented a boat for the day and this was on the bucket list and it did not disappoint! We saw a variety of fish and beautiful coral. The drop-offs are staggering. It's no wonder considering the nature of the islands but hard to picture until you see it. Amazing diving here awaits! Just... More

One of the best places I've snorkeled. It was amazing. The water is so clear. I recommend Ehu and Kai kayak rentals for access to the monument.

Good snorkeling in the coral reef around the monument. One can hike in to snorkel, or one can book a kayak trip across the bay and then snorkel. Some other groups like Dolphin seeking groups also stop here but can't access the monument or step foot on the old jetty.

The monument itself is a fun but brief stop. The snorkeling nearby is excellent. The reef is in shallow water that gradually gets deeper & deeper until it eventually drops WAY off. Saw a huge variety of fish and other sea creatures. The water is as clear as it gets in the ocean. Crowded later in the day so go... More

It is a 2 mile hike one way with 1200 foot elevation loss/gain. We are in decent shape and it took us an hour each way in Keens. I felt sorry for those in sandals. We went early to beat the tours. The marine life was great. Take water and a snack. I can't wait to return and paddle board... More

Most people come in by boat to see this area but there is also a hiking trail. The most challenging part of this hike may be finding the trailhead and a parking spot. If you are going on a weekend, go early for both shade and a parking spot on the side of the road. The trail is in good... More

Wanted to go to the monument but time did not allow for the long hike or the kayak trip to visit this site. Had to take pictures from afar.

If you want a great spot to snorkel and you are of average fitness this is the place for you. It's not marked at all but the trail entrance is right at the turn off the highway and if you ask around you'll find it. There were cars parked on the road all around the entrance. You will need lots... More
