The Pinedale region was at the heart of the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade, which supplied precious beaver pelts to the fashion industries of Europe and the eastern United States. Mountain men like Jim Bridger, Kit Carson, Thomas Fitzpatrick and William Sublette carved their legends here, and opened the way for the pioneers of the Oregon Trail. The Museum of the Mountain Man shares a comprehensive collection of Rocky Mountain fur trade journals, relics such as Jim Bridger’s Rifle and the finest Native American sheephorn bow still in existence. Opened May through October and winter season by appointment.

This museum is very nice especially considering it is in a small town. Very good exhibits that they rotate occasionally. Nice building with lots of parking. Best time to visit is during the yearly rendezvous when they have exhibits outside and presentations about the fur trade and what not.

Interesting mountain man stuff, not the most engaging museum I've seen but not bad. $10 per person seemed a little high for the experience.

After spending the night in Pinedale I figured it would be a pity not to stop by this Museum. I'm glad I took the time. The museum is not super big so you can actually stay motivated to read all the information ;) There's also a movie on loop. Great stop and very friendly ladies at the counter.

We stopped at the Museum of the Mountain Man while visiting Pinedale, WY. It is a first class museum with many interesting exhibits. A really wonderful look into the era of the Mountain Man - what it was like, how it began, and how it ended. Highly recommend to anyone who loves history.

Really enjoyed the entire presentation. Loved the isolation of the area and all of the displays in the museum. Was snowing while we were there and made the whole experience even better. Beautiful country.

This museum focuses on the short period (about 1800-1840) when "Mountain Men" roamed the west for beaver. It does a good job of integrating a lot of history and has varied displays. We spent about an hour at the museum. The Green River Rendezvous was the yearly resupply for the Mountain Men, and there was quite a bit about the... More

My 9-year old daughter loved this museum. I also learned a lot about the mountain men and their relationship with the native americans. Do visit if you are in Pinedale. This museum is affiliated with the Sommers Ranch Homestead (7 miles of out town and only open Fri/Sat in summer) - and the 2 visits fit together well if you... More
