If you like elk, this is not to be missed! We took the $25 hour long sleigh ride out to the herd, and the guide was very informative and being that close to thousands of elk was fabulous!

Enough snow for this activity is 50/50 before December 25th. You could luck out with a good early winter there or not enough. The peaks will have snow to make it picture perfect but enough for a sleigh ride. Planning an... More

It is a self-drive around the refuge. I don't remember seeing any horses. The art museum on the highway opposite the refuge is REALLY worth the entrance fee.
