21 acres of wooded land and grassy areas being developed into a public botanical garden. A long-term project that will eventually include a visitors' center, education structure, gift shop and more, the Gardens currently feature a Memory Plaza, Wildflower Woods, fully accessible Treehouse, and aerated pond. Numerous trails, some marked with distance posts, lead through the property, which can be visited free of charge. A wide variety of trees, many of them memorials, and other colorful plantings dot the landscape. Ideal for walks, meditation, exploration, and events such as weddings, birthday parties, and reunions. A list of Garden events, including regular tours, can be found on the website. The Gardens are a geocaching site.

A nice place to connect with nature, the Monk garden is a relativity new garden so it does not compete with the more established gardens but it still is the best one in Wausau.

This is a lovely plot of land donated by Robert J Monk. They are working very hard to make it a destination. Which I am convinced they are accomplishing. There are walking paths and a tower to climb up over looking the grounds and pond. There is an outdoor covered kitchen with an edible garden. They offer many activities during... More

Beautiful and serene, nice place to go for a walk, to relax or enjoy nature. The new outdoor shelter is awesome. The only minus, some of the traces get muddy after a good rain.

We enjoyed a leisurely walk through the park soaking in nature, the trees, pond, flowers and gadens. It is still a work in progress and will be gorgeous when finished.

We were looking for a place to take a family member who is mostly limited to home or easy access places. We also wanted to take our smalll dog. This place was a great find. Our family member was able to access most areas with a power chair which put a nice smile on his face. The sign on the... More

Take your dogs or just walk to enjoy the beauty of the place. Clean, safe and well used. A great place to clear your head. People we met were all friendly

I promised my 9 and 7 year old grandkids an adventure today. Visiting a "garden" did not sound like an adventure, but they loved very trail, plant and tree. The tree house is very special. Thanks for this very special space

Any good gardener will tell you it takes patience to make a beautiful garden. Monk Gardens has made so much progress so far that it's exciting to see what's new every time I visit. The newest addition is the kitchen garden. The building is complete now and has a large counter for talks and demonstrations with innovative seating and includes... More

I hadn't been out to Monk Gardens in about a year and that was far to long - the amazing tree house is done and was not done the last time I visited. Every step you take in this amazing place reminds you how beautiful nature is and how amazing these Gardens will be when this project is completely finished!... More
