Can be quite crowded in the summer, so arrive early. We always enjoy the half-hour ride. In the winter you need to make reservations and you get to enjoy the crunching as the ferry breaks through the ice.

Get to the ferry early, as cars will wait in line to drive on once the ferry unloads the cars coming back. The ferry can only take so many cars, so if it's full, you have to wait a while before the next one. It...More

Went to Door county in September and took the ferry ride mid-week with my car. Did a little research before the ferry ride to see what eating places there were; which is not many. I missed out on one of the 'train/trolley' rides but was...More

Ferry is on time, reliable and safe. Boats have a seating area so you can get out of your car on the trip across the bay. $80 round trip for four people and a car seems like plenty though. That said, if you want to...More

There is no proper restaurant or sanitation facility inside the island. Also the colors are terrible not that much good spots. the Ferry is also overpriced as we paid around 80 bucks for 4 people.

Holds 16 cars over and back to the island, around 30 minutes. Can get a little choppy but not terrible. Nice views, the colors are starting to change. I imagine it's awesome when it's full out fall. I especially liked the newspaper clipping explaining who...More

We took the bus tour which takes you to some very unique spots, that you probably wouldn't find on your own, such as an old farm, a beautiful wood church built with no nails and a beautiful beach. You can also rent a bike... More

I would drive so you can go where and when you want. Don't try and walk as all you will see in an hour is trees and then it's time to return to the ferry.
