Built as the family home of mining and lumber baron Martin Pattison, the four story, 42 room mansion was completed in 1890 at the cost of $150,000; estimated at today's costs to be well over $3 million. The exterior and first floor of the mansion have been completely restored to the original splendor, with gilded murals on the ceilings and frieze, a grand entrance hall and open staircase, marble and tile fireplaces, and original leaded and stained glass windows. The second floor of the mansion includes access to master bedroom suite, furnished much as it was during the Pattisons’ time in the house. The third floor is dedicated to the Children’s Home era from 1920 to 1964, when the mansion served as a home to the less fortunate. It also includes the restoration exhibit, featuring documentation of the extensive work performed during the 1999 restoration of the mansion.

Took the tour solo while in town for work. Tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the house. Very reasonable price. Very hospitable as well. Didnt want to wear boots during the tour so they let me leave them at the door and take the tour in my socks.

My husband and I took in this wonderful mansion in September of this year. The price was more than fair for this home. I have traveled throughout the United States mansion hopping and felt that this home was so unique. The wood that was used was very rare. The overall layout was very interesting especially the stairway. Turret spectacular. The... More

We had a great time looking through this beautiful mansion. The tour guide was well verse and knew her stuff. Probably the best house museum in the area.

This is a place we would recommend. Reading the history behind this mansion before you arrive, is helpful in understanding the historical value. Very clean, well kept and clearly a place that the community values and takes care of.

This 120 year old mansion is well worth seeing. The lower level has been meticulously restored. The tour of the 2nd and 3rd levels were good as well. The building has quite an interesting history as a family home and children's home. Babe Ruth even visited this home! My only disappointment was that the young tour guide seemed rushed and... More

An amazing mansion. Tour guide well versed on history of it and the family. I was born in Superior and recall riding my bike by this great home as a child. Fun to finally get inside. Simply beautiful.

Fairlawn Mansion was built by a lumber baron. The first floor has been restored to its former splendor. After Mr. Pattison the original owner died, his wife moved to California and left the house to be used as a children's home. The second floor is pretty much in the condition it was when the children's home was closed in the... More

Great tour. Guide really knows what he is talking about. Lots of history. I thought prices were reasonable. Restoration is beautiful. Too bad some rooms are offices and would have LOVED to see basement with pool and bowling alley but I understand they have to think about safety. Worth the trip!
