Nice trail for a quick hike. Free parking and easy to use. The views from the top if the trail is stunning. Definitely not dissatisfied with it. A little weird that on the start of the trail there is what looks like junk (old tractor...More

A hike in the preserve provides great viewing for many native prairie flowers and other plants. Many things blooming for us to see in early June. There is only one main trail to hike here, out and back. Part of the trail is shaded and...More

Surprise!! Turns out prairies are not flat, boring expanses of brown dirt. We found rolling hills, paths cut through wildflowers up to our shoulders, beautiful vistas, eagles, songbirds, eagles and our very first sandhill cranes. Off the beaten path but worth the effort.

This hike been described as going through the ‘Wisconsin desert’, although I would think of it more as dry grasslands. Lots of sand, and some cacti, but also lots of grasses and the bluffs are heavily wooded. It’s a fairly leisurely 90 minutes out and...More

The small, sandy preserve highlights remnant prairie and desert ecosystems. A pleasant 1.6-mile (one-way) trail winds up to the top of the bluff, affording very nice views of the river valley below. The prime feature of the landscape are the sandy areas with lots of...More

Suprising location for a desert! between forest, corns fields and a bluff, tucked away is a sandy, prickly catus desert. we enjoyed seeing the cacti blooms .....peak should be coming up in mid June. Good hiking shoes, bug spray, long pants, and a wide brim...More

It was a Sunday morning, later summer, and the place was for us alone. We walked the path through the tall grasses and fall asters. There was no one else, just us, grass, and sky. Go, but go early.

This is truly a gem with flora and fauna unique to the area. I've been twice, the first time was in late June when the cacti were in bloom and the second time in early August. I didn't make it to the end either time...More

0. The trail starts next to a metal gate with a sign. The nice driveway to the right goes up to someone's private home. 1. No facilities. This is a nature preserve that includes a very small parking lot, an info kiosk, a hiking trail,...More

We walked the trail at the preserve and marveled at the cactus and beautiful wild flowers. The incline toward the end was a bit more than other reviews led us to believe but doable.
