This site is awesome, but I did not enjoy the self-guided part of it. They gave me a booklet to read, but the articles were so long I didn't feel like taking the time to read it. The buildings were well maintained, but I think...More

My wife and I visited Pendarvis after a morning visit to the First State Capital. Since we are History Society Members, we got in for free and enjoyed a self guided tour of the property. I learned a bit about the history of the mine...More

This site, managed by the Wisconsin Historical Society, is a collection of early-mid 19th century restored limestone cottages. The very thorough tour covered the history of the area, the lead mining which first brought it prosperity--photos and tools show us how the miners lived and...More

Pendarvis is a remarkable historic site that is well worth a visit. We did the self guided tour with took approximately an hour. The admission price was reasonable and as a history buff this was a great way to spend an afternoon. The site consists...More

The tour guide gave a nice oral history of Cornish miners and lead mining in the area. The buildings were a disappointment - they are neither all original nor authentic reproductions. So many add-ons and very little items/artifacts from the mining time. They have some...More

You have identified some of the most basic challenges of social history sites. In trying to be true to the evolving nature of the life of common people, we have not chosen a single time period nor deconstructed the layers of change that happen in...More

We did the self-guided tour with very helpful brochure that we were given on entering the site. The buildings are very well restored, filled with interesting artifacts and explanations of the early history of Wisconsin. Definitely worth a visit.

I enjoyed the tour and interpretive information, however I was continually distracted by the gap in the story about the two men who started the whole thing. Were they gay or not? I understand it's a small town but it's the 21st century, you can...More

Worth the stop but I couldn't ignore the cobwebs and dust. The guide did a very good job explaining and sharing stories about the interesting history of mining in the region and the eccentric owners of the restored houses. She made the site come alive.
