We stopped by here after being amazed and overwhelmed by the collection at the Milwaukee Art Museum, having low expectations for the Grohmann. Our experience was amazing. First off, the facilities are great. The staff were friendly, several sets of clean bathrooms on each floor, a nice giftshop, and well laid out floors. The art was very nice and the... More

The collected art, paintings, and sculpture of this wonderful museum is a must see! Situated within the campus of the Milwaukee School of Engineering in downtown Milwaukee; the Dr. Eckhart Grohmann collection is unique and exceptional. Housing one of the world's best collections of the paintings of Carl Spitzweg, and featuring a magnificent roof-top sculpture garden, the main galleries are... More

Part of the MSOE campus, this museum is packed with interesting objects and works of art. Not your typical stuffy museum atmosphere but geared more toward the beginner or novice museum patron. A unique part of this museum are the rotating statutes along the edge of the roof line that symbolizes various occupations that MSOE (The Milwaukee School of Engineering)... More

Great art works of the industrial age with a distinctly Teutonic slant. Most of the works shown are the artistry of Europeans, with a large number of German. Plan on taking 1 to 3 hours to take in all of the exhibits

I'm not a big museum fan. Lots of obscure pictures with any consistent theme. This museum is not like that. Focused on work and what people do with pictures of so many jobs--from ironworker to beekeeper. Sculptures and paintings (mainly paintings). 3 50-something guys had a great time here.

Unfortunately, we attended during the time when there wasn't a major exhibit but enjoyed going anyway.

This is my second trip to Grohmann. It lives fully up to it's description as a museum for Labor Art, with it's collection almost entirely of paintings of people in the process of performing their profession, with an emphasis on pre-20th century blue collar works. The artists, like their subjects, are mostly obscure names. which is appropriate because their identity... More

It is unlikely you will recognize 99% of the artists, mostly European. The art here depicts people in the past 500 years at work. You can actually watch jobs as they evolved over time. Much of the technical skills are not up to your A level artists. What this museum has done is really laid out the art in an... More

In an age before cameras these artists captured the everyday tasks of workman doing their jobs. The work wasn't flashy, it was hard and dirty and dangerous but had to be done by people, not machines. This art was in a private collection but ran out of room so Mr Grohmann built this building. There are three floors of pictures... More

If this museum was in Europe it would be ranked as one of the top 4!! Very interesting collection - well laid out, and not an aristocrat in any painting. All ordinary people at work. The rooftop figures left me cold though.
