Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What an amazing experience. The staff was also exceptional. Matt was extremely gracious at check-in accommodating our large group looking for a twilight golf experience.

Great old style layout on the Links course. A challenging course for its simplicity of design. Really enjoyed it!

Fix the Sand Traps meaning put sand in them. Lawsonia boasts of being a top course but the traps I found myself in had dirt or so little sand that my club bottomed immediately. When I wrote to the club following my round I received no response. Arrogant.

We golfed the Links course on day 2 of our golf weekend in Green Lake. We teed off at 930am, and it was pretty cold to be honest, and VERY windy, The course is very challenging due to mounds placed near every green, and in some cases, the green is on top of a mound, requiring precision shots. I struggled with the wind on the back 9 as it is wide open. We wanted to play one of the top ranked courses in the country, so chose the links. Next time, I'd like to try the Woodlands. However, this was a great experience, even though the mounds frustrated me most of the day lol

My wife and I played a round at one of my Wisconsin favorites, the Woodlands course at Lawsonia. Designed by William Langford in the 20s, it is a gem of a design. I am a 1.8 USGA and play a lot of courses around the country, here is my review;

Green complexes are well maintained and stimping at 8-9. It looked like they had been aerated in early September, but very smooth.

Bunkering is in great need of repair, green side bunkers are mostly dirt and clay and do not drain well. They had a rain storm the day before we played and they were wet and had standing water. I was told they are taking out the wonderful fairway bunkers on the course, truly a tragedy and will likely cost them in their ratings, especially since it’s mostly weeds growing in the fill the spots. Who thought that was a good idea?

They trees around the fairways and especially the tee boxes are over grown and in need of being trimmed back significantly. #3 tee is 60% dirt due to lack of sun light and air circulation.

Well worth playing at $60 . Since their tee sheet is full, why not charge $70 and plow the difference into the course? Kohler charges $240-$450 for green fees and the layout at Lawsonia is just as good, only maintained on the cheep.

Nice vistas for the Woodlands golf course. Very challenging. Sand traps are not playable, all dirt. Course is well maintained otherwise. Nice , helpful staff at clubhouse, starter and cart girls providing refreshments. Well worth the golf experience.

I golfed the links course and it was in excellent condition from the tee shot to the fairways to the greens. The greens are fast so land you approach shot short they will run the greens are fast and undulating.

If you are a golfer it is a beautiful course not only to play but to see. Also if you are not a golfer try the food and drink it's not bad.

Brought 11 relatives in town for a family reunion. It was a busy Saturday evening (7/28)when four of us arrived early and ordered a round of drinks. When the other 7 arrived, we were told by the waitress that they could not take an order over ten people....computer limitation supposedly. We offered to sit at two different tables but were again told it didn't matter. The waitress was apologetic but totally under the House's rules.
We gave up, paid our small drink bill and took our potential $200 order with us. Went to Nortons, paid more, but had a hassle-free experience.

The Links Course at LawsonIa is an original: a 1930 links course carved into the Wisc country side. This is a hard course (try to get a course book or play with a local).

They have medium rough, and high fescue around the holes. Then the bunkers are typically pushed up mounds so you are hitting over a small grass wall. The greens have a lot of undulations. Sound hard? I thought was.

But it is worth the visit (great course - and a cart for $75). Can’t beat that after Sand Valley!
