Tour the fascinating world of radio astronomy and see the pioneering instruments of the 1950's to the world's premier single-dish telescope, the GBT! Entrance to the science center is FREE, includes admission to the exhibit hall. We also feature the Starlight Cafe-nominated as WV's 101 Unique Places to Dine and the Galaxy Gift Shop with out of this world souvenirs and educational items. Featuring science demonstrations and even a bus excursion through our gates into the RFI-restricted Zone I, the hour-long telescope tour takes you up-close to the world's biggest telescopes. Admission to the Exhibit Hall, Cafe and Gift Shop is FREE. The telescope tour is $6/adults, $5/seniors, Free/Kids 10&under, and Free/Veterans, Active Service Members.

Talk about stuff being BIG... This stuff is big. Radio Observatory, the Big Telescope... is three football fields across. What is even more interesting is just how isolated from the "Grid" you actually are. You will not have use of your cell phone. Can't use...More

We did not even know this was here (came to ride the trail), but thought it strange that the car radio went around the dial on Seek without a single hit... no cell coverage either. Then we took the tour & learned about the United...More

A group of 20 of us spent the night here for the Boy Scout Astronomy Merit Badge. The program itself is pretty amazing and detailed. The Scouts get to use one of the telescopes, climb into a huge bubble to learn about the stars, take...More

We really enjoyed our time at the observatory in the exhibit hall as well as on the tour. Even those who are not interested in space /technology would enjoy spending time here.

We took the 1 hour telescope tour. It was the only tour offered the day we were there. It began with a short but interesting presentation in their theater, after which we all loaded into one of their diesel buses and drove around to see...More

What an interesting place to visit. It was so informative and amazing to hear about the quiet zone in the area and that they can trace something that is causing interference to their satellites right to someone's home.

We did both the regular 1-hour telescope tour and the 2.5-hour SETI tour and really can't say enough good things about the SETI tour. The telescope tour only drives by the telescopes, whereas the SETI tour gets you inside them and includes discussion time with...More

We had a fantastic experience at the observatory yesterday. The science museum is very hands on and a lot of fun. We did both the hour long tour and the three hour tour (which requires pre-registration). Information was not duplicated and we are so glad...More

Short 45 minute tour was loaded with information. The cost was only 6 dollars per person. It also had a small hands museum with a model of the large scope. Really enjoyed it
