Opened in the summer of 2003, the Clay Center strives to present a variety of arts and sciences all under one roof. The Avampato Discovery Museum is two floors of fascinating interactive science exhibits, while the ElectricSky™ Theater features planetarium shows. In addition there are a large performance hall and a small black-box theater, an art museum, a fun museum shop, and a cafe. There's something interesting scheduled virtually every night here!

We were meeting family in Charleston for a gymnastics event and had a day to explore. The exhibits were amazing and engaged everyone in our family from the 2 year old to the 75 year old! Plan on a couple of hours at least to see everything. Restrooms were clean, the food at the cafe was affordable and tasty. Definitely... More

We were lucky enough to get a preview of the Clay Center's new attraction My Town. It is simply amazing & top-notch. There is so much for the kids to do we didn't even make it to all the "businesses". The kids had a blast playing on the fire truck (they can even put out a fire in a building),... More

Went to an afternoon matinee of the movie showing of The Wizard of Oz with the WV Symphony playing all the music. Magical! Chillbumps as soon as the music started. Great idea! Maybe Sound of Music or Music Man next time?! :) As for the Clay Center itself, lots to see and do before any performance. Lots of "hands on"... More

Several of the exhibits were under construction while we were there but the staff was friendly. Access from the parking lot is less than pleasant.

Thomas the train was very interactive for children of all ages. Enjoyed all of clay center. Parking was another thing. Confusing payment procedure and not the best parking.

Very Small and Way Over Priced!! The activities are limited which makes a short visit. They need to offer more to keep the kids entertained.

We went on an Easter Sunday Ricky Skaggs with Kentucky Thunder concert. I was in college and had to critique a show for a class project. The Clay Center is engineered so precise that the musicians record there for the quality of sound. If you get a chance to see a show there, DO IT!!! It is worth it.

Avoid concert series - If you are not able to afford season ticket passes, the only seats available are nose-bleed second tier balcony where binoculars are required to see and a hearing aid would definitely come in handy. TERIBLE place to watch Broadway plays! I have tried on multiple occasions to purchase tickets for shows when initially announced (as far... More

I attended a musical performance at the Clay Center. The center bright and clean and has a medium sized auditorium and smaller venues including some gallery space. The auditorium lobby is a large glass enclosed space which can be used as a baquet hall/multipurpose area. Parking was $3 in a street lot. There aren't many restaurants close by just a... More
