Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Where else can you see seahorses and sharks, peacocks and penguins, wolves and walrus, all in one place? The 29-acre Zoo is large enough to offer an awesome array of animals yet small enough to let you get really close to them. Our keepers often roam the grounds, taking animals on strolls so you can see them up close. Who knows? You might run into a lynx on your way to see the polar bears! Be sure to visit Kids Zone. This fanciful exhibit engages children in active learning through play. The focus is on fun, movement and learning what animals need to thrive. The breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains are free - and so is the parking. So what are you waiting for? Bring your family to see ours. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is open at 9:30 a.m. daily. Closing times vary. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is just minutes off of I-5 in beautiful Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA.

We took the family here and had a wonderful day seeing all of the animals. My daughter rode a camel and one of our FAVORITE things was feeding the budgies, NO NOT MISS THIS!

We parked a ways away and had to take a complementary bus from the paring area. I heard that there was 8,000+ people. But even with all those people it was not a crowded experience. Lots of new light displays, good pretzels, warm in the...More

We visited here for Zoolights, it was a great holiday experience, Be forewarned, there are tons of people and traffic. I would say go later, but you may not get to enjoy everything at leisure. It was still a fun time, the lights are spectacular....More

While crowded, the lights are a wonderful holiday experience. We went on a recent Saturday night and the zoo was busy which is great. My recommendation is that you arrive early for the best parking and to beat some of the crowd. Dress for the...More

Had not been here for 20+ years. Did not have much time, so limited in what we saw. Spent most of the time in the aquarium, which was really great. Loved the jelly display.

My family and I love to come here to see the animals and to walk around the zoo. But this year we went to the zoo lights and it was incredible. My children were in a magic land.

First time to visit this zoo. My daughter picked this day because of the Christmas zoo lights. We arrived at 3:30pm and had no trouble finding a park. We visited most of the animal pods before we were ushered inside the barricades for the lights....More

Hello, According to their website, the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium is open 9:30am to 4:00pm daily, September 26 - October 31. The zoo is open year round, but in the winter the number of days open are reduced.

They will be open just about all year other than the coldest months of the year because most animals will hibernate. Going in October would be great as long as it doesn't rain and the day is not too hot but not too cold.
