Chihuly glass art decorated courthouse

It's amazing to walk into Union Station and see all the hustle and bustle of a busy train station. Architecture is beautiful and neat to know the history of it being built over a Roman bath house. And real gold in the ceilings...

Recently went to a memorial for a retired dispatcher who I had worked with when the Northern Pacific Railroad had a dispatcher center here. I also arrived and departed on trains from this station since 1950 as a passenger. The station has been down-sized, but it is still a beautiful place to visit.

Here is something new. A courthouse with huge colorful Chihuly glass art decoration hanging from the ceiling right in the middle. How cool is that! First of all, the ancient building itself is quite a masterpiece. I love the big Rome style round roof with beautiful decorations. The rustic red brick and green sculptures reminds you of those old ages.... More

The beautiful old rail station now court house also has some beautiful Chihuly glass. There is no charge to walk into the building and sit and contemplate the art.

It's a bit deceptive that this is a "station" as it's now a US Courthouse. Because it's a functioning courthouse, you'll be greeted by a security guard at the front door who will ask for ID and advise that you cannot take pictures of the security area. There's some Chihuly work inside the main entry way including one of his... More

Loved the architecture of this building! No longer a train station, now owned by the feds, who use part of it as a courthouse (not allowed in that part). Good displays downstairs of railroad days. Chilhuly glass in the lobby area-gorgeous. Fun statue outside in front of station!

Fine old former train station, now a courthouse and museum; because it's a courthouse, it's unfortunately closed on weekends. Has been restored, has a nice glass installation too. Next to Art Museum, Glass Museum, and Glass Walkway.

This is worth the trip to see some more amazing Chihuly artwork, and to experience the history of this building. And it's free!

Union Station is a courthouse and so be prepared to show your I D as you enter. The Chihuly pieces on display are certainly worth popping in to view as you visit the nearby museums or the Tacoma branch of UW~ It's free!

Our purpose was to view the restoration of Union Station and view some of the glass creations. This is a working Federal Courthouse so plan on bringing photo ID to gain free entry. The main floor or waiting area contains a huge central glass sculpture affixed to the dome, with restored mosaic tiles throughout, the second floor will place you... More
