The hike out to the lighthouse is a great experience. Great sights and you can get a tour once you reach the lighthouse. Go up the lighthouse. Freaking cool. Tip: do the hike when the tide is out for easier walking.

It was a beautiful day and the 11 mile roundtrip walk was well worth seeing the lighthouse up close. Glad I did it!

Walk 5.5 miles to see a lighthouse? then 5.5 miles back? Sign me up! What a wonderful experience! The lighthouse keepers take you on a tour when (if!) you get there! Awesome experience!

I cannot say enough about my experience being a Lighthouse Keeper at the New Dungeness Lighthouse. This by far has been one of my most memorable experiences and that's a tall order to top when this involved a "working vacation". Everything about my stay, with...More

It is a long 5.5 mile hike. It's much easier at low tide. The lighthouse keepers gave us a very informative tour. It is definitely worth the long walk but you should be in pretty good shape to return to the parking area high above...More

This walk is not for people with bad knees or legs, as it is over 5.5 miles in each direction on a sandy and rocky beach. On very stormy days the water will cover the spit and sometimes wash out a section of it. Volunteers...More

Two hours of fast walking on the sand was invigorating. Our reward: the lighthouse tour and picnic tables for a bag lunch. Then another two hour return walk. Took up most of our day - fabulous views every minute!

I checked with my friend and, after spending a week there as a lighthouse keeper, she never saw a single dog so my guess is no, dogs aren't allowed there on the beach or in the lighthouse. They may be okay in the campground... More
