We started our three week road trip from Seattle to San Francisco to see the National Parks with Mt St Helens. We had seen Mt Rainier and Olympic National Parks last summer. I really disliked the feeling of Mt St Helens. This visitor center closes...More

Several Trails close to the Visitor Center. You can watch two 15 minute movies as well inside the Visitor Center. Plenty of parking.

The facilities here are definitely older than the movie and facilities at Johnston Ridge, but we enjoyed the movie here more. They also had an art show by local artists that we enjoyed a lot.

Worth the stop see the movie at the visitor center. The view of the mountain is spectacular . The ride up to the center is a wonderful twisty ride with lots of view points.

We stopped at the visitor center, which is 5 miles off of the highway. We thought maybe that was all we would do, but had time and decided to take the ~ 1hr. drive up to the monument closer to the mountain. We are very...More

A very centre with lots of good information and displays about Mt St Helen's. That said, in order to see Mt St Helen's close up, you need to drive for about an hour up the road to the Johnston Ridge Observatory. Lots of the information...More

By the time you get done at the center you will fully understand what took place not only on the day of the eruption, but what lead up to it and the Mountains history over the last several centuries. The cost is minimal and the...More

We drove to Mt St Helens from Portland as that is where we were staying. The observatory is the place to get the best view and information about the eruption!!! Hope it works out for you.
