This is a nice place to visit, but make sure you are in the mood to walk and have the time to take it in. As with most historical locations its best to read as much as possible before visiting so that you are able to fully understand the significance. Several books are available locally if in the mind to... More

My GPS and Trip Advisor do not have accurate directions to this National Park, but after some false turns we made our way there. The Visitors Center was closed for renovations so we read the signs and then started on the walking trails. It is a very interesting battle and they have a lot of information on the signs. The... A very laid back and well thought out walking trail. The hike starts at a parking lot with a visitors center that was sadly closed. Informational panels are placed along the trail, giving us an idea of the civil war activity. Just a note the trail is moderate on skill level with some steep inclines and uneven surfaces.

We had a great fall afternoon to enjoy the trails and to learn a little about the battle. Trails are well maintained and easy to follow. Steep but easily done on rather side of the bridge. Would be here a lot more often if we lived in the area.

A good effort is being made to preserve this battlefield while keeping it accessible as open land for local residents. Trail maps and markers could be somewhat clearer, but if you have some background on what took place, you'll find the terrain interesting - if not it's still a lovely spot to get outdoors.

As we were dressed for unpaved trails, this battlefield is okay. I think that it lends itself to just come and reflect. It is a good place to just be quiet.

This battlefield has two entrances. One starts from the union encampment and one from the rebel side. The trails are a mix of rough and ready trails that are little more than cow paths, trails that are completely done in asphalt, and others that are a small gravel mix. These trails take you past historical markers that give you information... More

This is the best birding spot of any we have visited in the area. Quiet, lovely vistas, stream areas. Spotted red fox,King fishers, green and great blue heron, cuckoos and many song birds. Our Merlin birding app was not helpful on IDing birds as not enough birders have gone through yet. Visitor center not open even though middle of the afternoon... More

Visited this battlefield park to enjoy the walk on unpaved trails. The site is mostly flat with just one fairly steep pitch down to creek level and back up the other side - this short section is paved but the remainder of the paths are gravel. Always heartbreaking to read the details of battles fought at sites like this and... More

The only way that you are going to learn about this battlefield is to hike it. To do the whole thing it is about a 5 mile hike. The scenery is gorgeous. The signage could have been a 'bit' more informative...but then again, maybe that is my fault for showing up and knowing nothing about the battle that happened there.... More
