Historic Jamestowne is the original site of the first permanent English settlement in America. Ongoing archaeology at the site of James Fort has changed our understanding of the struggles and triumphs of early 1600s life in Virginia. Living history programs and an archaeology museum tell the story of this dramatic rediscovery. The site is jointly administered by the National Park Service and Preservation Virginia.

Last time I was at Historic Jamestown, the first church was under excavation. When I went there this time, the foundations of the 2nd and 3rd churches were being excavated along with another area. The excavated artifacts have been placed on display in wonderful exhibits in the Archearium. Just outside the James Fort area, you will also find information about... More

My 12 year old daughter and I began our Jamestown day here and loved seeing the active archeology site and artifacts in the museum. Also, seeing where the original fort stood and where the foundations for other buildings were was very helpful in visualizing things later in the day when we moved on to Jamestown Settlement later in the day.... The weather was perfect so we decided to sign up for the archeology talk /tour of the Jamestown settlement . It was so informative and educational . Our historian was great and presented the information so that everyone could understand the mindset of the English when they landed in Jamestown . There are actual areas that the archeologists have been... More

We skipped the Discovery Center on this trip (although I would recommend it) and just did the actual Jamestown dig site and National Park portion. There is a footbridge over a lovely marsh with turtles and frogs, ruins including the church site where Pocahontas married John Rolph, and the kids loved playing around the palisade and reconstructed pole barracks. The... More

Really informative and educational. Some of the diaramas were a little too dark to see. Staff is super-friendly and helpful.

The visitor center is tremendously large and informative. Our guides were great as was the upgraded site features. Good history tour! Beware fo the Cafe...very expensive for lunch/meals. Captive audience and they take advantage of the remoteness.

We lucked out on our visit since it was free for Presidents Day. Our tour guide was a bit quiet and we walked out of the tour on our own after 30 minutes. Fascinating place.

Great place to relive the British colonial history. Enjoyed walking around the ruins of Jamestown, and driving the scenic loop.

Life in 1607 comes life. We visited the museum the archaearium which was very informative. Pocohantas's story came to life. We went to Memorial Church and met a wonderful guide at the close of day and he had a great grasp of history. We had stopped at the glassblowing before getting to the archeological site and that was also very... More
