Hike, bike, kayak, paddleboard, whatever motivates you to connect with nature you can find it here ( including snakes, so be alert!). The visitor center and the shorter, nearby trails are great, but if you have the time, sunscreen and interest, a visit to the abandoned community at the edge of Virginia is unique and intriguing. There was an actual... More

It was public lands day and it was raining so we decided to go check out the park. The lady at the gate said she didn't know it was public lands day when we told her, so our parking fee was waived. It was pouring so we didn't get to do much exploring, but it was even beautiful in the... More

Started to just be a bike ride around Back Bay refuge. As we went down the road to false cape, we just kept going. Before long we made it to the welcome center at the state park. Surprised with the welcome center and selection of drinks and food. Varied assortment of souvenirs and camping goods. Hard trek to the beach... More

I've always wanted to visit False Cape State Park, ever since as a little kid I first learned there was a park at the beach that you couldn't drive to. You can only reserve campsites over the phone which takes a while, but if you persevere and book far enough in advance you can snag one of the six oceanfront... More

Had fun biking to the southernmost point of False Cape. Bring lots of water and wear lots of sunscreen as there's little to no shade on the trail. But it is beautiful and serene. I'll visit again in the fall.

This is a beautiful and remote park. The dad gum feds cut it off from Virginia so you either hike an extra 5 miles just to get to it, take the shuttle, or go around through North Carolina. What a way to get to a Virginia park. The rangers are great and the park offers some limited facilities.

Perfect place for the ecotourist. kayak, motorboat or bike to this quiet, pristine beach but don't look for any comforts of home. Rustic camping, pack it in, pack it out and a pit toilet. It's our favorite place to go!! Bring bug spray in case the wind is blowing from the west, the biting flies will munch on you at... More

We started at Backbay Nature Reserve and rode through to False Cape, total round trip ride was about 16. You can do a shorter or longer ride. Both parks have nice welcome centers, False Cape was closed but the bathrooms were open, and very clean. A word to the wise, there are cotton head snakes on the trails, beware because... More

Enjoyed a nice bike ride for over 10 miles of roads and sandy beach. We enjoyed mother nature, deer, wild pigs, snakes, ospray, snowy egret, sea rays, dolphins and watched a turtle dig a hole with its back legs and lay it eggs. Awesome or what

If you experience a day of clouds and wind at the beach - try visiting this park and natural area - lots of wildlife to see and trails to hike. Make sure its a nice breezy day in summer months OR bring along the insect repellent. Clouds helps to keep you cool for an extended walk. If you cannot walk... More
