Still fairly new to Virginia, we had not heard of Chippokes Plantation State Park until we purchased a book about plantation homes in Virginia. On a recent trip to Williamsburg, we decided to take the ferry to Surry to visit Chippokes Mansion. The drive through...More

Again you are in a place very seldom seen because it is across the river from Jamestown. This park is a great reason to cross the river.

My family loved it here! I will definitely be back. The water is calm, clean ,and somewhat secluded. My 10 year old, 2 year old, and husband all found ways to enjoy this beautiful park. We swam, fished, played on the playground, and explored the...More

Great park, with bbq grills, gazebos, visitor center, pool, camping, play grounds, and beach access, beautiful spots to sit by the water, great area for swimming with little children no rough currents, very clean park, with helpful rangers, great place to beat the heat

This was a really quiet and nice state park. Our site was really long abeasy to play pull into. The stores that were in our area seemed newer and were substantially more level. Lots to do at the park for a weekend outing. Well worth...More

Went to Chippokes with the family earlier today. Be prepared to pay a $5 “parking” fee. The mansion was a great added adventure as I learned quite a bit about the land. Also liked walking down to the beach near the visitors center.

Chippokes Plantation State has it all! Its one of the oldest continuously working farms left in Virginia. It has a plantation house and a collection of well preserved artifacts of life in the Antebellum South I've seen. One of the carriages there is the envy...More

We don’t recommend swimming in the river because it hasn’t been designed for swimming and what you may encounter underwater is unknown but we don’t prevent it.

It's a dirt/grass path around a big field or several big fields. I wasn't impressed with the equestrian trail....

Double-check the fee schedule on their site, but I believe it's $5 to park, $3 for adults to swim, and $2 for children 12 and under.
