St James Church sits in a picturesque setting above the Kerikeri Basin. Built in 1874, it features the architecture of the nineteenth century, and provides a link back to the Anglican Mission established in Kerikeri in 1819. Still very much an active place of worship,...More

You should really appreciate the history and story behind this church. As such it is an important building in the history of New Zealand. However, you will find on your travels far more interesting churches to visit and see with far more impressive architecture.

Although we couldn't go inside the church the old cemetery was interesting if you like reading historical headstones.

Worth a visit for its beauty and history, supposedly built on the site chosen by Maori Chief Hongi Hika, who invited the missionaries in. Worth a look when you visit the Stone Store.

Very beautiful setting that included the church, an old schoolhouse, and the Waimate Mission House where New Zealand's founding document was signed. The church is small and quite old but well preserved. Next to it is an interesting cemetry overlooking beautiful green hills and valleys....More

This is a beautiful part of the history of New Zealand. This little quaint church is nestled amoungst natural greenery close to the Stone Store and Kemp House and still has weekly services. A most peaceful place to breathe!

The first chapel on this site was built in 1823, but the current one was built in 1878. Very attractive from the outside and a lovely, peaceful ambience inside, with pretty stained windows. The gravestones were also really interesting.
