Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited Te Kairanaga on Sunday the 14th of March. When we arrived there were two other people doing a tasting so the place wasn’t busy at all. The lady running the tasting was cold and showed very poor customer service skills. My partner was selecting wines that he thought he would like to taste and eventually purchase when the lady serving promptly told him “that’s not the proper order to have wine in” we witnessed her say this to two other customers that arrived after us as well. This winery lets you pick 5 wines to taste so there is no set tasting list so I fail to understand why it matters what order you taste the wine in. If it was that big of a deal you could actually tell customers the order you recommend trying the wines in. The lady serving the wine failed to do this. The server also didn’t really tell us much about the wine and was uninterested I felt she had quite a snobby attitude. We won’t be returning and found the experience to be very mediocre and the wine really wasn’t anything special. The service and wine at Palliser Estate was first class and very much made Te Kairanga look like an economy class establishment.

Over a long weekend we visited 10 wineries in the Martinborough region. This was the least satisfactory tasting. They did have a table for us to sit at. However the presentation was poor. We didn't get to try the wines each of us preferred. The result was that we purcahsed very little wine from them .

I had been to different wine regions, Waiheke Island, West Auckland, Central Otago, Hawkes Bay, Yarra Valley, Heathcote, Surf Coast. Ngambie, Barossa, McLaren, Hunter, Napa Valley, Sonoma, etc., so I knew quite well about tasting experiences.
When I was there, I was told there were two tasting lists, TK & Martinborough Vineyard. I was puzzled - I thought I came to TK, what was the difference, why? I had many questions. So, I told her I wanted to try both and she told me I needed to pay for both. Sure, so be it.
Then she poured wine, almost no explanations, nothing about the wine, the winery or why were there two lists, until I asked. Right, Martinborough Vineyard didn't have their own cellar door.
Well, turned out I tasted 10 wines, and that was it. It was not the fault of the cellar door staff, it was very busy and she was the only one, but hello, the owner should have planned well.
No experiences at all for this wine tasting experience. There were plenty of wines in this world, there were also many good wines from Martinborough. I can always get something somewhere else at a comparable price.

Visited the cellar door today on the 30th of October. The service was terrible from the moment we entered the cellar door, we did turn up at 3pm but it was a sunny Saturday afternoon and we wanted wither tasting or a bottle in the sun between 6 of us and where told we did not have enough time, after much convincingly Cody allowed us to have a tasting but she was rude and passive aggressive throughout our tasting which we all agreed ruined the experience for us, even talking back to me which felt a lot like threats. Coming from a former cellar door manager and current wine rep i was less than impressed. Don’t get me wrong, this winery makes some beautiful unique wines and previously i have had great experiences, however this day when i had close friends visiting it was incredibly disappointing to talk up the place only to have a staff members (cody) attitude completely let the experience down. My advice? Call ahead and book in IF you can (big if) you will be lucky to do this. Usually its a great atmosphere and experience but unfortunately Cody has spoiled the trust in consistency for me and i won’t be recommending this brand again the way i once did. They do a wicked mulled gin in the winter but honestly places like Luna and Moy Hall provide a much more enjoyable welcoming experience in my opinion.
Best of luck

Hi Kim, we are sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your visit to our cellar door. This is certainly not up to our standards and we’ll be taking your feedback on board to ensure our customer service improves. We hope to see you again one day with a much improved experience. Cheers, the Te Kairanga Cellar door team

We went in the afternoon and ordered the Martinborough classic and icons tasting tray. Then we had some food and to finish of the tasting we had the gin tasting tray. Good wines and excellent gin's. The staff were very friendly. Nice location.

We arrived to taste some wines and got no greeting, got told we can taste 5 wines and that’s it. The so called taster didn’t want to know us, was too interested in the other group who he was talking to about each wine. We got nothing. Just because we are young doesn’t mean we are not interested, we have worked in the wine industry so not a good look for an industry that has a snobby aspect to it. Go to Palliser instead, fantastic service which was completely different to this.

The rain was pouring down in Wellington so we came to Martinborough for the better weather and the great wine and food. Freshly shucked oysters, a filling soup and a great lamb burger. Went down well with the 2013 John Martin Pinot noir.

This was our favourite winery on our trip around the Martinborough wineries. Tasting was great 5 different wines for me and and my husband had 4 wines and a gin tasting. The young staff were lovely and knew their wines. The tasting room and setting is gorgeous really lovely place.

We visited on bike from martinborough town square this afternoon, we recieved a lovely warm welcome including bringing our dog into the tasting room. The girls on tastings were so friendly and not at all pretentious about the tastings and explained all the options allowing us to take our time and go enjoy the outdoor seating in between wines.
What a beautful peaceful setting with lovely wines! Highly recommend the 2018 pinot gris on the Te Kairanga list. They also do tastings of Martinborough vineyard wines and lighthouse gin.
5 wines for $10 is pretty standard for most places now and no fee if you buy a bottle 😊 I could quite easily enjoy an afternoon on a beanbag with a platter and wine there

14 from our wine club in Whangamata, made special arrangements to have a wine tasting, on the Monday 19th June at 10.30am, which was confirmed by Ariel. When we arrived the place was closed. I left a message on Ariel's cell phone as there was NO answer. I then went up to the winery and found Peter, who made contact for someone to open the tasting room for us. Someone did arrive 20 minutes late, but it gets better, another bus load of people arrived and the lady serving us new nothing about there appointment. Bad management.

Apologies, not sure. We were tourists and live on the Gold Coast Australia. I'd check their web site (if they have one). Cheers
