About
Coral Bay Ecotours is a fully accredited tourism business of Australia, an adventure tour company working within the realms of the magnificent Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia. Come on board our Glass Bottom Boat for our 1 hour coral view, 2 hour coral view and 2 snorkels. Why not visit our resident turtles on our 3 hour turtle Ecotour, where we can observe them feeding, then enjoy 2 snorkels. How about a fantastic marine ecotour for the opportunity to swim with the awe inspiring manta ray, in what has become almost a daily event. Embrace adventure snorkeling with these gentle giants. Coral Bay is also one of the few places in the world where you can snorkel with the magnificent whale sharks - the world’s biggest fish. It certainly is an experience of a lifetime and the main seasonal attraction between March and July for guests from all over the world. For the second year, we will be part of the humpback interaction trial, where you may have the opportunity to see a humpback from in the water! This takes whale watching to a whole other level! Season begins August and finishes in November, but be quick as it may be the last year for this amazing experience!! We also run 3 hour whale watching tours during the season. Crew were amazing and went out of their way, however, as it was the end of the season in Coral Bay we were unable to see any whale sharks.
Due to this, we only spent 15minutes in the water as part of the initial 'test' snorkel. Although we were delighted to come across a couple of humpbacks frollicking, it was a very long day.
It was disappointing that, given the chances of seeing the whale shark was low, other provisions such as designated snorkelling stops whilst waiting for the call out from the spotter plane, or even the offer of a discount on another tour, were not offered.
I would recommend heading to Exmouth instead where the season is longer, the cruises cheaper and discounts or refunds offered for non-sightings.

This was our second trip with Ecotours, having swum with Whale Sharks with them in 2017. That was a great experience so we were confident they would be a good choice for our next trip to Coral Bay.

This time my wife and I did a day trip swimming with manta rays and I did a day trip swimming with humpback whales. Again, Ecotours provided a very professional, friendly and educational experience. On both trips the staff worked hard to find fantastic spots for our snorkelling and to ensure each person had maximum opportunities to enjoy the sea life.

They did a great job of following the rules for distancing from the rays, sharks and whales but providing lots of time to get a great experience. Their respect for fish and whales was always paramount and well transferred to the swimmers. To top off the trips, Ecotours provides (for a small fee) fantastic photos of the trip which would be impossible to capture yourself.

As an experienced diver, these trips are up there with diving in PNG, the Barrier Reef and Antarctica.

Thanks to Ecotours and especially the staff for a great experience

We were lucky enough for some bad weather in the afternoon to force us onto the three hour turtle sanctuary tour. The crew were very professional and demonstrated their experience by making me feel safe to explore some deep areas in Coral Bay, even as a novice at snorkeling. Our first snorkeling spot was excellent and we stayed there for about 30 minutes where we saw plenty of fish and endless coral. After a hot drink on board we headed to a turtle sanctuary where we saw plenty of amazing green sea turtles around and beneath the glass bottom boat. After this we moved to a sandy area to snorkel with some pockets of coral where sleepy turtles were slowly moving about. Such an incredible experience to swim so close to these amazing creatures. We then headed back in to shore while given plenty if hints and tips to see other wildlife and rare coral in the area. The boat may be a little small for the amount of people on board, but all up this was a 5 star experience.

Hello wildlifefan2020, Thank you very much for your review. We are very happy that you had the opportunity to join the Turtle Ecotour on our Glass Bottom Boat, and that you had a wonderful time. The safety and enjoyment of our guests is our top priority, so we are very glad that you felt safe exploring the reefs. We are so fortunate to have an amazing population of green sea turtles around Coral Bay, and they are always a highlight for our guests! Our Glass Bottom Boat can seat up to 30 passengers, but does require some staggering of guests on entry/exit to the water due to the space on the marlin board. Our visit to Coral Bay EcoTours was something different than advertised and expected.

We arrived the day before our tour to be fitted with wetsuits and fins and upon
asking the staff if they'd seen Whalesharks recently there was quite a lot of non-commital answers from the staff.
Potentially they'd forgotten that they'd written their last seen Whaleshark date outside the store on a blackboard, which upon reflection turned out to be 5 days prior.
Is it fair to run a tour knowing you haven't seen what you're advertising?

On the day, the trip out to the boat and safety briefing was very well handled, prompt and with clear instruction.

After our first snorkel on the reef, the boat headed north and onto the outer reef to work in concert with the aeroplane in an attempt to spot whalesharks.

This is where the dissapointment began.

It became clear early on that the focus of the plane was to see and find other sealife than the Whalesharks as advertised.
Rather than be open and honest about our chances of finding any Whalesharks,
the crew and aeroplane were focused on finding and seeing everything else on the reef.
This included a number of dolphins, humpbacks and dugongs, although we hadn't paid to go on an obersvation trip via boat but to actually snorkel with Whalesharks.

By 2pm, the search for Whalesharks was called off upon overhearing the plane requesting to land which was agreed by the skipper.
We didn't arrive back to the jetty to Coral Bay until 5pm earliest.
This was another 3 hours spent on the boat.

I would expect potentally further effort or at least some honesty around our chances of viewing Whalesharks before or during our tour.

In an attempt to lift the now extremely sour mood on the boat, the crew focused on finding another snorkeling opportunity.

Before and after this snorkeling tour, asking crew about Refunds and/or Reattempts was met with deflection to discuss with the office when we made it back to Coral Bay.

Company Policy is not to offer either of these things which the staff knew well ahead on the boat this left the staff in a poor position to handle quite a number of upset people with 3 hours remaining on the boat tour.

At the end of the day, I'd spent over 800$ on a snorkeling tour of the reef rather than what was advertised, a Whaleshark tour.

The final nail in the coffin was hearing the next day they travelled much further north and were successful in seeing Whalesharks.

My advice is to go to Exmouth instead.

We had an amazing trip with these guys, staff so friendly and helpful nothing was too hard.
The day was unusual as there was a dust storm which did not allow the spotter plane to fly and we did not think we would be able to swim withth the Manta Rays, however as luck would have it another boat did spot the Rays.
We saw 7 Matas at one stage 1 female been pursued by 6 males and what a show we got.
It was a truly amazing experience one I will never forget.
Thank you for a wonderful day. Keep up the great work.

Hi 49lynnw, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your Marine Eco Safari with us. It sounds like the dust storm didn't stop the manta action at all! 7 manta rays is a very good day indeed! Kind regards and best fishes, The team at Coral Bay Ecotours

Great crew. Great service. Clean boat. Good equipment.
BUT 40 minutes snorkeling for a 9.5hr trip for $400something dollars was in our opinion testing the boundaries of what one can expect from a trip like this. Nature is nature everyone understands that and not every company has the means to provide sight guarantee, but a little compensation in form of refund or discount for another booking would go a long way and the absence of this will stop us to book with Coral Bay Ecotours again.

Eco Tours provided an excellent day out. They provided equipment or guests could provide their own. The crew were helpful and knowledgeable as well as being friendly and approachable. The crew were also flexible enough to change the order of activities to suit the weather conditions and willing to go the extra to ensure guests had a good experience viewing and swimming with the wildlife. Having a smaller group on board meant there was more than plenty of room on the boat, upstairs and down. Jake was especially willing to help out with the photos. Would not hesitate to do this tour again or recommend to others.

Staff were so amazing and informative. We had 6 drops with three different whale sharks, felt completely safe the entire time. Lunch was lovely and fresh. Water was lovely and warm. Purchased the photo package, which was well worth it. The whale sharks was obviously amazing but the bonus of watching Alex swim with the baby tiger shark who was chasing a puffer fish was the perfect end to the day! Would do it again tomorrow!

No whalesharks seen or experienced on the Whaleshark Safari Tour. This is no one's fault of course, but at $430 the Whaleshark Safari tour was the most expensive tour I did in Coral Bay. Recommend going to Exmouth for your Whaleshark adventure, there were reports of 18 and 19 Whalesharks seen on tours in Exmouth the same week. The smallest number I heard for an Exmouth tour that week was 8 whalesharks on one tour. The Exmouth Operators also offer a guarantee if a whaleshark experience doesn't happen that you can go on another of their tour dates, so a much better option for spending your money. The crew on the Coral Bay ecotours were lovely though, and the catering was good.

Wasn't going to leave a review but was prompted via email so why not?

Did the 3 hour tour.

Spanish native speaking girl who piloted the boat had a pretty poor attitude. She seemed completely uninterested and fed up.

She started the tour by asking us if we wanted to snorkel in one spot for an hour or two spots for 30 minutes. We're new to the area, we paid for a tour, you decide what's best.

Having said that she had something come over the radio to say dugongs had been spotted. Everyone on the boat wanted to go see them but she said we were on the turtle watching tour so we had to go see turtles.

I didn't even realise it was a turtle watching tour. I just wanted to see the reef via the glass bottom and go snorkelling.

The turtle watching was 10-20 minutes of the girl driving the boat over the turtles in the water. At times she came close to hitting them but we did seem them. Little to no information was provided on them.

Once we'd seen the turtles we went to two separate snorkel spots. These were cool.

The guy did his best to stay upbeat and tried to keep everyone engaged.

For the price, roughly AUD 110 it's worth it for just the ride out over the reef but don't expect much.

Hello iajrowei, Thank you very much for your feedback in this review, and for joining us on tour. Let me first address the structure of the 3 hour Turtle Eco tour that you booked. This tour involves snorkeling at 2 different sites on the reef, and spending some time at the seagrass meadow feeding ground observing green sea turtles that are almost always seen grazing and slowly swimming in this area. This area is relatively shallow, and while it may look at times like the boat might hit them I can assure you that this is not the case. The glass panels on the boat can sometimes make objects look much closer than they are. Secondly, let me address the attitude of the skipper of the boat. I apologise for the poor attitude of this staff member. The general schedule of the tour allows for snorkeling at 2 sites on the reef, but in certain circumstances (for example, poor weather) we sometimes wil focus on a longer snorkel at one sheltered site for guest comfort and enjoyment. We do our best to see as much as possible on these tours. There is no reason why seeing dugongs on the turtle tour would be a problem, unless it was because they were further away where our other full-day tour boats operate (and use the same radio channel). This was the case on this particular tour, but I apologise that this wasn't properly communicated with yourself and the other guests onboard. We certainly have a high service and experience standard that we aim to deliver on all of our tours, and I apologise again that this was not your experience on our tour. We hope that in future you may join us again so we can show you the service and experience we are so well-known for providing. Best fishes, The team at Coral Bay Ecotours
