- Kellie D1 contributionCloud Catcher Deli Cafe and bar Melbourne airport terminal 1On my way to Perth for a very overdue holiday back home working hospitality don't get much time off. So since I was early for my flight decided I'd have a well deserved drink and relax . Stop at Cloud Catcher deli cafe and bar . Had a sandwich grab a wineplace not overly busy no one else at counter pretty much ignored till young man came over yes what do you want ? Just those thanx yep that's $$ ok yep not much of an interaction. Sat there right beside the counter for half hr went back up to get another wine and some nuts . Two older women working there were in a conversation no acknowledgement of myself just continued to talk then one walked over didn't say anything to me is that it yes I said that's $$$ then I went to walk off with wine to my table which was right next to counter they continued talking I'm half way to my table when she says excuse me I have to open that I said sorry ok and she goes and you need a glass I said no thanx I already have one. Pointing to my table . Oh yep then goes straight back to their conversation. Hospitality isn't like it used to be and considering their age I was a little surprised. If you work in hospitality and can't be hospitable please don't bother showing up for work . Working it for 30 years myself and still currently in the game very disappointingVisited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 13 November 2023
- Charlotte1234569 contributionsVery uncomfortable and clinicalThe airport is very clinical. We had to stay over for 6 hours in the airport for our connecting flight during the early hours. We shouldve booked a hotel as the airport was cold, chairs were very uncomfortable and made it impossible to be comfortable to even consider a nap. I wish these things were considered as there were a lot of people struggling like ourselves. If you can afford it stay in a hotel by the airport. There is a Mcdonalds 24 hours in the domestic terminal for food and hot drinks so keep searching as we had to keep walking in hope as minimal staff to ask during the early hours.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 May 2024

I’m a well seasoned international traveler who lives in Melbourne. I asked for a wheelchair to use a head of time due to fractured vertebrae. There was one person in charge of this service this morning with little staff for the service. This unfortunate employee was run ragged trying to get wheelchairs and staff for passengers who required assistance. Yes several flights arrived at approximately the same time. The airport would have known that! It took approximately two hours to get from leaving my airplane to get to my luggage! I was not the only one. Travellers and their families were left sitting in empty corridors for extremely extended periods of time. Can you imagine what impression this would have as a first time visitor to our city? Of the 10 plus airports I have had to use a wheelchair without a doubt the Melbourne airport ranks the absolute worst. The employees were trying their best but overwhelmed. NOT their fault. May I suggest the airport reach out to United Airlines or Narita airport in Japan to learn how to life their game.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 14 June 2024

After travelling for 6 weeks I returned home to Melbourne.
The luggage carousel was offloading 2 busy flights, so after 23 hours of travel I waited almost 40 minutes for my 2 pieces of luggage.
When i picked up my suitcase that I purchased just prior to this trip I realised that the entire bottom of it was smashed. The suitcase survived 8 airports but not Melbourne one.
I approached the baggage enquiry desks and was accosted by a very unfriendly staff member asking what I want. I told her what happened and her 1st question was which airline I arrived on. When I told her she said "not here, on the left". Left of.....what? What's on the left? Why are we assuming it happened on the plane?
I realised that the airport will take no responsibility despite the fact that the travellers in the line behind me had exactly same issue.
Melbourne airport has had ongoing issues with the baggage handlers and yet its automatically suggested its someone else's fault.
I left as I was way too tired to put myself through the impossible task of getting someone to take ownership of the situation.
Melbourne airport staff, facilities and, of course, the infamous baggage handlers make me want to fly into Sydney and catch a bus home.

The Travellers Information Service is a facility for people arriving in Melbourne with no clear idea where they are going. It's a useful service for booking hotels, tours and so on. Melbourne Airport is quite far from the city, it would be unwise to stay at the airport unless you are in transit.

On December the 12th, Monday Night at 9.30- 10.30pm.
My Mother, Sister and I were about to Depart from Melbourne Airport and Leave bacK to our HomeCountry in Malaysia (🇲🇾) here, During That time, while we were Queueing through the Line on our way to the Immigration Counter, I then realize I had dropped my Outgoing passenger Card (the departure Form) where you have to fill- up when departing from Australia (🇦🇺) so I had to Rush back to the bacK of the line to grab a new Form and fill it out Again Before Queuing back the line and This is Where and when My Mom & Sister had pass through the Immigration already by the time I was bacK in the line. They were waiting for me at the ends meet while I was Queuing my way through to the Immigration Counter then when it's Finally my turn to the Counter that EXACT Moment, and this is When and where the Immigration Officer serves me!

We arrived at night on 11 Jan, airport was very quiet and not busy at all. Security and customs check were smooth. I was a little confused of food declaration about whether my stuff had to be declared or not. Then there was reminder that it was better to declare, even if the food is prohibited, you would not be heavily fined. The biosecurity team justed asked what I brought in (kids snacks, camomile tea and saffron) and then they let us through. I saw some passengers had to open up all luggage tobe checked.
All airport shops like sim cards shop, coffee shop, pharmacy were closed by that time so we couldn't buy a sim card which was really difficult for us the next day to connect. We were able to book an Uber trip by using the airport WiFi.
The next day we had to use roaming service to ask a friend helped order some food and asked a way out to get a Covid test. It did not take much time to queue and get free Rapid test kits for my family, 8 kits for 2 time testing. If test at the airport, it is 50 dollar per test. 2 out of the free test were invalid, so we had to come to the government covid test center another time to get more kits. Overall, it was not difficult to get the free test kits even though it is all out of stock at pharmacies and supermarkets.

I was departing to Singapore on 28 December. I had approached the counter staff where it says customer service. The Woman there was so damn rude. Totally ignored me whilst I was infront of her and was engaging in conversations with various staff. The amazing part was that the people who were talking to her 1 by 1 were also ignoring me, instead of attending me. The best part was that they were engaging in private conversations. I said excuse me and she rudely told me to wait. After 5 minutes, she acknowledges me and was rude when I told her my mum needs to eat coz she's diabetic. She was like if you chose to go then your mum can walk all the way to the plane. What kind of person says that? No empathy? If you wish to employ such staff in an international airport, please sack them as they lack empathy and have no proper training to be customer service staff. Just go home and engage in private conversations. Makes travellers look down on Melbourne with such staff. Disappointing and disgusting. Melbourne airport feedback keeps closing the case without even reading the feedback. Within minutes.

Going to Melbourne? Expect to find the worse so-called international airport you would have ever experienced! Brainless layout, always under construction, incredibly dirty (toilets, carpets, walls, stairs... Everything basically), old... Arrivals, departures... It makes no difference... The ugliest, most unfriendly airport in the South Pacific region. One last thing... The exit-to-the-airport experience is a nightmare! Totally inadequate for a respectable international airport, small, congested... It will take you 30 minutes or more to leave that terrible place called "international Melbourne airport" 🤮🤮

Having just arrived back in Melbourne from Singapore, it is hard to understand how Tullamarine airport can be so terrible as compared with an airport like Changi. Singapore and Melbourne have comparable populations. Our societies are vastly different, but even so, Changi is exquisite/beautiful! Conversely, Tullamarine airport is a disgrace! It’s filthy dirty, the floors are littered and the carpets stained, the toilets are dirty. Everything about it is old, worn out and uninviting. Even the pathway from the customs clearance to the exit doors was filthy. You’d think, that if nothing else, they could at least afford to keep the place clean.
The Smart Gate system is painful. Whose bright idea was it to have a two stage system; 1. get a ticket/selfie, from the first machine that keeps breaking down, then 2. go to the so called “smart gate” to smile at the camera a second time. What a crock!
Then on top of that we still have the good old manual arrival card. Always fun to see people clamming over each other to get one of these as they exit the plane, then sit on the floors blocking the passage ways to fill them in.
Tullamarine is really a horrible place to experience. Yes, there are plenty of other bad airports in the world, but for international visitors Melbourne is a high expectation destination, and for many of them, seeing Tullamarine on arrival, must be a bit of a shock.

None of the free access airport lounges at Melbourne International departures are open after 11pm. This would be ok, but their websites - for Marhaba and Premium plaza state that they are open until midnight. Our flight is delayed until 01:05 - and there is nowhere to rest properly at international departures. A shame.

As Australia’s 2nd largest airport, what an embarrassment Melbourne airport is to the state and domestic and international travelers.
The airport looks old, tired and boring. Broken e-passport machines, ridiculous immigration queues that travelers have to line up through the duty free store. A lack of eateries and seating.
Melbourne likes to boast about being vibrant, colourful, full of culture and energy. This airport is anything but.
It is only worth one star.

Sadly Melbourne airport is awful! Very much like you have arrived in the third world....
Sunday 6th October 2024. Qantas 38 from Singapore arrived on time - yes and International flight. Flight had to park on the tarmac and passengers had to disembark via stairs and then a bus to the terminal. Not the welcome to Australia for tourists - and sadly those in wheelchairs were forced to wait over an hour for assistance.

hello i am landing in terminal 2 and departing from terminal 1 do i have to go go through security while getting from terminal to terminal?

If I am flying from Perth to Auckland and a stopover at Melbourne, do I have to rechecking luggage or does Qantas transfer luggage?
Written 16 January 2024
You need to check with Quantas. I know for domestic transfers you have to collect and re-check luggage.
So if you are going same route on your return, you will have to transfer the luggage yourself.
A hint...take a photo of your luggage at departure. Melbourne airport is notorious for destroying luggage.

Far enough, for the Local_ Aussie border force security (Immigration officers) to racially profiled by just yelled , hold_you up in the immigration counter Facility and then point Fingers at your FACE ALL for bein - an Asian (CHINESE) unless your WHITE.!!
That's how far it is, from terminal 1 to 4!

I am traveling through Srilankan Air Arival at Melbourne Terminal 2 at 15:55 & at 18:00 MEL Terminal 1 through Qantas Air. I have confusion
1. Does my luggage automatically shifted to Qantas Plane or I have to make transfer myself after immigration process.
2. Is 2 hours enough for getting connected flight at Melbourne

Hi
Go on the Melbourne airport site and will show you the layout with maps and directions that you can download to make it easier to navigate on arrival. We arrived on Jetstar domestic at T2 and the walk to T3 took 20 minutes, so I guess seeing T1 was nearby, it should take the same time
Cheers

Hi! I will be travelling with my family to Singapore next month. Our domestic flight from Adelaide (Qantas) reaches Melbourne at 10.55am and our next connecting flight to Singapore (also Qantas) leaves at 12.10pm. From what I read we will have to transfer from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2. Just wondering if this short transit time of 1hr 15mins is sufficient to walk to international departures, clear security and immigration and then walk to the corresponding gate? We will be travelling with a 9 month old infant as well. Thanks in advance!

the domestic and international terminals are all in one building at opposite ends so shouldn't take too long.

Hi
Go to Melbourne airport site on the internet and it will show the layout, what I remember as we flew Jetstar Australia, Newcastle to Melbourne, it was a 20 minute walk.

I am going to US Dallas from Melbourne via Sydney, ie the domestic flight to Sydney and International one from Sydney to Dallas in one booking with Qantas. My questions are:
1) Can I checkin my back all the way through to Dallas in Melbourne Airport?
2) Can I do passport control and customs in Melbourne Airport?
3) Can I do my TRS (tax refund) from Melbourne Airport?
or I have to do all above in Sydney airport ?
Regards.
Written 13 April 2019
+Melbourne International Airport can do baggage straight through to Dallas , if you get off at Sydney only go to International transit lounge, therefore no need to redo customs, as for 3) have no idea never had to do this.
If travelling on a domestic flight to Sydney and then transferring to International flight, will have to do customs in Sydney butyour baggage can be forwarded to your international flight direct from Melb domestic.
