The little centre is lovingly maintained by a dedicated team of locals who give up their evenings to trek you round the foreshore. There are few penguins but that makes it all the more fun. The equally charming NZfur seals have been chewing up the...More

Evening tour. Expert guide knows where to look. There were some right near the headquarters. A few more closer to the shore. Also gave us an astronomy introduction. Star viewing great in that area. Good to see the penguins as they may disappear due to...More

We took the evening tour during our KI visit last week. Walked around with the guide and spotted a few adorable penguins nesting in the distance with the provided special red flashlights. The guide seems nice and knowledgeable, but was very awkward, quiet, and difficult...More

We did the 7pm guided tour walk. The guide was extremely knowledgable and he knew all the good spots to see the penguins. He was very quiet though and didn't have great people skills - he was very much a scientist. Overall it was a...More

Too dark to see the pinguins. After 9 you need to have a torch. The tour guy is very knowledgeable. That was the only good thing i learned something new from him.
