- Nicole GSydney, Australia1 contributionNo variety, not worth the money.Came here for something different and a more “hands on” experience for the kids. I had great experiences there myself as a child but the park is very tired and run down now. My kids were asking to go home within the first half hour as they saw bird after bird after bird. There was a token koala and kangaroo/wallaby thrown in too but they sought refuge all day so the kids couldn’t interact with them. A very disappointing experience and certainly not worth the $115 paid. Next time I’ll be going to Taronga, sorry Featherdale.Thank you, Nicole, for your review. Your feedback will help us to improve our guests' experiences. It is great to hear that you had great childhood experiences visiting Featherdale. However, we are disappointed that you did not have your expected experience on your return visit with your children. Regarding your feedback concerning the park grounds, we are continually updating our park facilities and enclosures. All our modifications and upgrades are in keeping with our rustic Australiana aesthetic. Concerning the collection of animals, as the comfort and well-being of our wildlife are of paramount concern to us, we provide our animals with refuge areas to keep out of the summer heat and a time out when needed. We appreciate your understanding and hope you will consider visiting us again in the future.Written 17 January 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 January 2023
- TravelingwizzSydney, Australia9 contributionsHalfday Well SpentI enjoyed featherdale park with my friend. There were many activities such as encounters and koala park. We took a photo with the koala and had the quokka encounter. There are some activities that are free such as the stamp passport. Overall, its a zoo, so don't expect a lot from it, but half a day activity, it will be more than enough. Only sad part is, there is much food choices and souvenir shop isn't big. Thanks for the great score Travelingwizz! We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your experiences with our much loved Koalas and Quokkas. We hope to see you back again soon.,Written 1 May 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2022Travelled with friendsWritten 12 April 2023

Pity was raining when we visited hence it affected some mood. But would totally recommend for family with yound kids.Thank you for your kind review. Our team work very hard to ensure that our animals are very healthy and happy in their environment and that our guests have the best possible experience while visiting our park. - JohnstannoSingapore, Singapore368 contributionsInteresting and compact sanctuaryWe came here with our blue mountain trip. This is a smaller and compact sanctuary with a handful of small kangaroos allowed to roam around at the entrance of the sanctuary. Positive point is you can see more animals in shorter time and up close. The koala area are the highlight, and there are many of them lazing around, mostly 1 to each enclosure.Hello Johnstanno Thank you for your 4 star rating and for taking the time to review our park. We hope you stayed long enough to see our larger roos at 2 x other free-roaming areas towards the back of our park, and the hundreds of other uniquely Australian birds and wildlife. Mostly, we hope you had a wonderful day visiting our park!Written 22 July 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 July 2023
- Susan SMercer Island, Washington131 contributionsAwesome Quokka Experience!LOVED the Quokka experience - these adorable little critters ate sweet potatoes while sitting on our laps. This is a nice place to view animals and birds native to Australia. There are quite a number of koalas in close proximity for viewing. Some of the enclosures are a bit undesirable but overall the animals appear well cared for. I recommend an afternoon visit to avoid all of the school children.Hi Barcelonabiker, Thank you for your kind word and 4-star rating. We are so pleased you enjoyed visiting our park and our gorgeous quokkas! Aren't they the best?? Please be assured that all of our enclosures are built and maintained to very rigid Australian Zoological standards, and the safety and well-being of every single animal is our main priority and constant focus. We hope we will have another opportunity to welcome you to our park.Written 20 August 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 16 August 2023
- Raintree_ThailandBangkok, Thailand3,777 contributionsDisappointing treatment of animals! We were brought to Featherdale as part of our tour package to the Blue Mountains. If we were booking again, we would look for a tour that skips the stop at Featherdale. While the place reportedly began as a center for treating injured animals, it seems to have evolved into just another money churner. From the moment visitors arrive (entry fee, selling kibbles to feed the animals) to inside (koala "encounter", crappy restaurant and snack bar), to the exit (big souvenir shop), it seems the place is mainly geared to squeeze out money from visitors. I realize maintaining animals is expensive, but this is not the way to do get needed revenue. They do indeed have a lot of animals, but most of the cages are small, with little mobility for the animals. Also, there are lots of encouragement to feed the animals (with purchased feed, of course), which to my knowledge is not recommended or healthy care of animals. The direct interaction (petting and handling of the animals) is not generally recommended for wild species. I came away more disappointed and sad for the treatment of the animals than anything. Not the best of experiences. We regret to hear that your recent visit to Featherdale Sydney Wildlife Park did not meet your expectations. To address your concerns, we have passed all audits over the last 50 years with the Department of Primary Industry without blemish. We are proud members of the Zoological Association of Australasia and voluntarily undergo a through a rigorous assessment process every two years that solely looks at true animal welfare to ensure we always maintain the highest standards. We strictly monitor the availability of animal feed each day to adhere to animal welfare guidelines. Moreover, our kangaroos and wallabies in our walk-in enclosures have ample access to refuge areas that are not accessible to the public. Regarding our Café facilities, while we don't have a full restaurant on-site, we offer a thoughtfully selected menu encompassing a wide range of delicious food and recently have been awarded 5 stars from the NSW Food Authority. Featherdale Sydney Wildlife Park is integral for the conservation of species across the globe. Although this may not have been evident to you on your recent visit, should you decide to visit us again, we hope you will be able to appreciate the hard work and effort that goes into the running one of Sydney’s most prominent wildlife institutions.Written 12 October 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 October 2023
- mariah f1 contributionGreat Time!I really enjoyed my time at the park. They have a large variety of animals to see and feed! They had informative shows. The gift shop had great selection and really affordable prices. I went a bit early/close to opening and many animals were sleeping. My only advice would be to go a little later in the day to get more active animals!Hi 143mariahf, Thank you so much for your very kind review. Quite limited space for the animals and (especially) for the birds, and no control on the number of visitors...so this can transform the relatively small place in a very busy one. Really loved the ethos of the place. While it is small and somewhat dated, with some potholed paths, you can tell there’s lots of love and care for the animals here. Layout is a little confusing and it’s easy to get lost!

We loved our experience at Featherdale! We highly recommend arriving early at 8am when the park opens as it's not crowded and you get intimate time with the animals. After 9am the park gets busier and tour groups start arriving, so the 8-9am window is key to avoid crowds. The kangaroos and wallabies aren’t caged so you can pet and feed them up close. This is an extremely hands on wildlife park. There’s also a bunch of koalas around the park for you to encounter and many birds and owls are around too. The staff are extremely friendly and animals are well cared for. If staying in Sydney without a car, it's relatively easy to get to via public transit. You can take an inexpensive 30 minute train ride paired with a 20 minute walk. We highly recommend visiting the Featherdale Wildlife Park!

One of our favorite places on our trip. The chance to pet a koala (and be photographed with it ) and feed wallabies and kangaroos was the most fun. We saw joeys in their mom's pouches and all sorts of animals that are from Australia. Don't miss it.

Absolutely amazing place! Can't believe we've never been before. The diversity of the wildlife and ease of access to it is exceptional, from the moment you walk through the gate.
The koala experience was also super special and at such a reasonable price.
We went with our 14 year old niece and she was in animal heaven too.
All the staff were very polite and friendly, and we'll be back for sure. Thanks for such a fascinating experience.

We took the little man to see some native animals of Australia. This small wildlife park is situated in suburban Blacktown, however, is still fairly sizeable. Plenty of enclosures, with lots of variety of animals. There is a place to get a feed and the food was pretty good.
There is a nice little petting zoo for the children with goats, shoe, two small cows, geese, rabbits and Guinea pigs. Next to this is an enclosure where visitors can feed the kangaroos.
If there was a bit of constructive criticism, it would be the place could do with some modernisation. This would make some of the caged enclosures more roomy for the animals.

Went there with a family of 9 on a weekday by car. Took the koala experience. We enjoyed ourselves very much despite the initial rainy weather. We were freezing as we didn’t anticipate the weather but all was good in the end. Lots of interactions with the kangaroos and we even get to feed the quokkas.

What does interaction with a koala mean ?
It means you can safely pat a koala, and see them up close.

Is there a lot of walking within the zoo? Is there shuttle bus available within the zoo.
How far to walk from getting off the bus to the entrance gate?
Thanks.

Hi no not much walking from car park .
Plus you can take your time walking as its not that big.
But well worth it so spend as much time as you like to make the most of it.
There is a coffee shot on the way out for refreshments and toilets.
I have mettal plate in my anckle and i just took my time.
Its well worth the morning or afternoon day out.
We got there around 9.30am alittle bit of a line but not very big.
Was alittle quieter on are way out upto you.

Hi, I'm park this month. I need to plan my visit precisly, because want to go to scenic world in Katoomba as well. Could you tell me please is there any map of your park available? I'd like to check how far is from koala, to wombat, tasmanian devil, how long I will walk. I'm coming with 80years old monther so this information are essential. I remember also that when I came to this park 7 years ago there was some aborigines show, there was some boomerang throw - is it still organised?

As far as the map is concerned, they are posted all over the park. I believe one is also provided with paid admission. Depending on your Mother’s condition, a battery cart/wc may be the way to go.
I don’t remember there be an aborigine
show when we visited in Oct. I’m sure it’ll be listed on their website.

¿Que tipo de comida se le puede dar a los animales?
Hi Camila,
The only food that can be fed to our Kangaroos, Wallabies and Pademelons is our cup of Animal Food available at the park for $2.00 a cup.

is it far to get to from Circular Quay? and how much does it cost to have photo's done with the kangaroos and koala's

You can take the train from Circular Quay (Blue Mountain line). Get down at the Blacktown station, and take a bus from right outside the station.
You can use the Sydney OPAL travel card for both the trips.
There are plenty of opportunities to touch and also take free close-up pictures with the kangaroos.
You have to pay for the close-up picture with kaola, but if you are OK with a picture of the kaola a few feet away, then that should be possibe for free.
Try and take the 10% discount coupon of the park (from the Syndey City guide, available when you are exiting the Sydney airport).

Hello, in Sydney for the first time and so excited about spending some time with the native animals. I can't really tell from the website what the experience entails at featherdale... Do you get to get up close and feed all or most of the animals? Is this included in the general price of the ticket or do you have to pay extra to do this? Also is there a time limit on how long you can pet/feed? Thank you for any insight!

Hi MrsKanga,
We have lots of Quokka's at the park, however they don't live in the free-roaming exhibits as they're quite temperamental compared to other Wallaby and Kangaroo species. You can still feed the Quokka roo-food over the fence if they're close enough. :)
Many thanks,
