    Excellent wines
Steve looked after us during our tasting, he was very knowledgable and happy to share each wines virtues with us. We tried all of the wines on the list, plus a couple not on the list - which was nice. The only disappointing part was that the $25 tasting fee was not taken off the price of the eight bottles we purchased; which is quite unusual.

    5 star all the way
This is truly a 5 star restaurant without the snobbyness. Food was seriously the best I have ever had, we did the food & wine pairing for dinner & hubby who is not a wine drinker normally walked out with 2 bottles. Noah was our server & Wensley was at the bar & meet n greet, both of them are down to earth, funny & help to make the evening amazing.

Tour and Lunch both were great
We've done a bunch of other winery tours and tastings. Because of Margan's innovative organic farming methods that cover a lot more than growing grapes, Margan's tour was new and interesting to us. Steven made it fun too (as did the tastings along the way!). Lunch afterwards was truly excellent. It made for a much better day than running from one winery to the next.

My friend and I booked ourselves a hotel for a couple of nights, packed the children (age 8,10, 14 and 15) and our bags and headed to the Hunter Valley.
One of our days we went to Margan Wines to enjoy some DIVINE wine tasting and a delicious charcuterie board, what had drawn us was the Mini Growers event which meant while we were tasting and chatting the children were in the depths of nature, treasure hunting for feathers, snails, carrots and other farmer garden delights. There were chickens, plantings, new friendships made and it was a complete success. A childrens' lunch was included at the end.
The service was exceptional and we would definitely book again for the mini growers. Next visit will be an adults' lunch on the beautiful sunny veranda. It would be wonderful if there were accommodation on the estate as it is a beautiful area to stay in.

Had wanted to visit Margan for some time. Went to the Cellar Door on New Year's Eve. The cellar door is beautiful. Half of our group were tasting while the other half ordered coffee and relaxed in the lounge area. The wines were lovely and I bought half a dozen. The service was knowledgable and friendly. A must do in Broke.

You can tell Margan is putting in a real effort and it's much appreciated. I think a 2 or 3 set course menu would better serve Margan, as a couple of dishes find it hard to stand up to the excellent Binnie Beef dish and in someway turn some attention from the great view and surroundings. The pre dinner tour, with cocktail, kitchen garden tour and wine straight from the Vat is well worthwhile with knowledgable staff.

Absolutely lovely place to go. Wines are divine and the food was to die for. The chef and his staff were brilliant. We had a wine tasting tour and our guide, Steve, was very friendly and knowledgeable. My husband and I highly recommended going there.

I would highly recommend the wine tasting at Margan. We had a great time and the wines were fabulous. Jenna and her team really looked after us. They didn’t hurry us and let us sit and chat between wines. Highly recommended.

We were really looking forward to our lunch but sadly Margan didn’t live up to the reviews and recommendations.
The choice of menu could have been better and we found certain dishes to be tasteless.
Maybe we visited when the chef was having an ‘off day’, I don’t know…..but we left disappointed.

The cellar door and restaurant have a nice feel about them.

The day started with a garden tour. The weather was against us, but Pat (the gardener) soldiered on! She gave us a tour and we learned some great information: borage plants, using egg shells to keep snails away and feeding chickens chilli in their feed when they go off laying! She also told us about Lizard Rock.

Things went down hill whent he "cooking started". The potato was already riced - I have no problem with this as time is of the essence and the chef did show us how to rice potatoes. We mixed up the gnocchi ingredients, rolled and cut them. Half were to be taken home and half the chef took away to cook for us.

That was it... end of cooking school.

We then had wine tastings - which gold coin donations for charity are requested for. We were refused the Barbera when we asked to taste it as we were told we were having that with lunch and had no need to taste it. Really? We spent about $180 on wine, gave $5 donation and couldn't taste that wine? I think some people would taste them all and not buy a things.. rude, really.

After about 1 1/2 hours we were called to sit down in the restaurant. We were asked if we wanted to order anything off the menu to go with our main course of gnocchi. I've never had this question asked at a cooking school before... We chose not to order, some of the others did order.

Bread preceded the meal and it was delicious and served with a whipped red wine butter. There was a little "extra" compliments of the chef. The gnocchi was accompanied by a salad so another course was not necessary.

The gnocchi was delicious and the sauce with delicious vegetables from the garden divine...

My problem is ... I don't know how to cook it. The gnocchi recipe was given to us but even that didn't say how long to cook the gnocchi for ...... boil or panfry?

I did contact Margan after the class to ask for the recipe for the vegetable sauce that accompanied the gnocchi but all I received was a curt reply and a copy of the same gnocchi recipe I'd already been given.

We could have gone, had a two course lunch (including gnocchi), along with a glass of wine and had money left over. Whilst lunch was nice, it was NOT a cooking school.

The other six participants all said the same thing as it was discussed at lunch and in the parking lot... we did NOT cook. It was NOT a cooking school. NO full recipe was shared. I would NOT recommend.
