We have visited Running Horse Wines on several occasions, and it has got to be one of the best cellar doors in the Hunter Valley. From the unique and gorgeous appearance of the architecturally modified shipping containers in which the cellar door is built, to the gorgeous scenery of Broke, you’re impressed before you even start tasting. You do not find wines like Dave’s anywhere else. They are simply exceptional. Dave is an absolute legend with a clear passion for what he does. He remembers us each time we go and doing a tasting at Running Horse is always such a treat. Cannot recommend this place enough.

We visited David just after Christmas and had another fabulous tasting. The repurposed shipping containers make his cellar door is unique and the views are wonderful. However, the experience is made because David is an amazing host and guide through his wines. The wines on offer ranged from 2005 - 2017 and a number of the ones we took home did not even survive to the new year because they are just so good! Cobalt Blue is still the perfect way to end a tasting or even better, a meal!

The best Cellar Door experience in this area and possibly further. Fantastic wines, fantastic atmosphere. We visited on our first day in the region and Dave gave us tastings tailored to what we would most enjoy, and no fee, I hasten to add. We tried a few other vineyard tastings where they were $10 minimum pp, and on some occasions had set menus so as predominantly red wine drinkers we were coerced into trying sparklings/whites/rosés that we had no interest in buying. Halfway through our last tasting at a vineyard down the road, we both turned to each other and said “Shall we go back to Running Horse?” … So that’s just what we did and we were greeted again with another tasting and practically a Soirée, where Dave introduced everyone and had remembered so many details about us both and everyone else there. The brilliant service certainly matched the quality of the wines. Would recommend a visit in a heartbeat. Can’t wait to visit again on our next trip. Thank you, Dave. ~ Star and Sam (Music Teacher and Quantum Physicist)

One of the Hunter Valley’s best kept secrets, Running Horse Wines, run by the unassuming Dave Fromberg, is a must for any serious wine taster. Tucked away from the corporate end of town, you need to keep your eyes peeled or you might miss it, although the jump out barriers in the front paddock help. Dave is as generous with his time as he is with his knowledge of wines and creates a relaxed and friendly environment, in his cleverly designed tasting area, regardless of who walks through the door. He has a sensational range of reds - my favourite being the 2011 - and his amazing life experiences will keep you enthralled as you work you way through the collection. We will be back!

Best Shiraz in the Hunter Valley. I particularly like that the tastings included a red from 2008.
Not a bad wine amongst all those we tasted
Dave is a very funny guy, but also very knowledgeable about wines obviously and knows what he is doing. We will come again

Absolutely loved Dave and Running Horse Wines. What an experience! Had some great aged wines with a very generous tasting session. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we returned for a second time in the same weekend. Would recommend to all visiting the Hunter Valley - but definitely leave yourself some time and don’t book to be somewhere else straight after! It’s worth the longer tasting

Killing some time before attending a concert, our visit to Running Horse Wines was in fact the highlight of our weekend. Don't want to say too much about this place as I don't want to diminish the serendipity you will experience when you visit. One thing though - you really should try the semillons.

My husband Nigel and I again visited Runnyhorses winery and our experience was just as good as our first visit. Dave is very knowledgeable about wines (he is the winemaker) and racehorses (he trains them} I particularly like how Dave introduces other patrons to each other winetasters. So the tasting experience is done in a friendly and group tastings experience.. Obviously numbers permitting. He holds back his new vintages and sells his older ones which are perfect for drinking now or laying down for the future. We will be back next year Dave. Thanks for your advice too on staying in Broke. cheers Judith

It’s difficult to describe a cellar door experience like the one Dave gave us on a lazy Sunday. On the last stop for the day
we happened upon the magical gem that is running horse wines, superb lovingly crafted whites and an eclectic collection of back vintage shiraz, each vintage more refined than the last! Dave was the ultimate cellar door host, his extreme passion for all of his liquid creations evident from each wine to the next.
If wine is not your passion, the cellar door created out of shipping containers clad with corten steel seamlessly sits amongst the mountains, vines and eucalypts.
An experience not to be kept a secret!

A rare chance to taste and purchase aged wines - both white and red - as well as more recent vintages. Dave is a very generous host.
