This was my first visit to Rochdale town centre to see the opening of the Rochdale Canal in the centre, it is very impressive and a really good addition to the wonderful square which also has the very impressive Town Hall.

I haven't walked on the canal path for over a year now and thought I'd take my mum..we started at firgrove to walk up to smithybridge..its a lot cleaner in parts but the trees overhanging on the way is a bit annoying the council need...More

Parts of the canal are very pretty but much runs past old or derelict 19th century industrial sites . very scruffy in places
