We came across this by accident, and we are so pleased that we were lucky enough that it was open. As it is not a Museum yo cannot use your Dutch Museum card to visit it. It is run by volunteers and local inhabitants who...More

The fort is not always open, as it is run by volunteers/friends. Though it is a great architectural work, it's not such a big loss not being able to visit it. You have to walk around 2 km from the center of Edam.

Compared to Amsterdam this area of Edam is just so relaxing and peaceful. The canalsides are a delight to just sit and ponder the world passing by on foot, bicycle and boat.

Truth be told Edam is boring unless you are here to see the cheese auction. There is barely anyone up and about and all you see are typical Dutch houses that are very quiet and unoccupied. You will only see a handful of tourists out...More
