- Wags63Epsom, United Kingdom498 contributionsPort and chocolate tastingWe had such a good time port and chocolate tasting. I booked the experience in advance and was a bit concerned that I had paid over the odds when all the bars seemed to offer ports for a few euros. We had 4 very decent sized glasses of port paired with 4 very nice ( and unusual) chocolates. I hadn’t expected our host to talk us through the ports and then we were left for an hour to sip at leisure and watch the world go by outside. We staggered back to the other side of Porto having thoroughly enjoyed our experience.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 May 2024

Excellent service and really reasonable food and drink prices. Great vibe, a must for an afternoon in the sun.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 2 June 2024

Food and cocktails were excellent. Great view and great service. Went downstairs and purchased some port and also the excellent olive oil that they had. Lunch was so good, going back for dinner.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 September 2024
- VWoodsNewcastle, Australia215 contributionsBest Port tasting in Vila Nova de GaiaHad the most informative & educational tasting ever. Vasco Garcia guided us through white ports, tawny ports, ruby ports, LBV & vintage port. I now have such a great understanding of port, the vinification, the ageing, the cellaring, the IVDP but more importantly the confidence to go forward with my Fortified exam in the WSET Diploma. Totally amazingVisited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 25 September 2024

Great rooftop bar and restaurant with unrestricted views of the river and city. Fairly priced drinks with tapas style nibbles made for a lovely late lunch by the river. Friendly relaxed atmosphere with either tables and chairs or sofas on offer. Well worth a visit if you’re looking to experience a rooftop bar near the river. Was open from 12:30 and easily accessed by either lift or stairs from the ground floor reception.

My tasting coach, Rafael, delivered a wonderful experience! The pours were a bit generous, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I was able to pick his brain more than the more general tours, and tasted some really lovely ports (8 in total). Highly recommend the tasting with 8 ports, and ordering the cheese pairing after. The cheese is delicious enough on its own. outside seating is beautiful. The rooftop bar is in a fun level all its own :)

A rooftop bar with great views over the river and across to Porto, this isn’t immediately obvious from street level and the only reason we even knew it was there was because we were on the cable car that goes right over the top.
We hadn’t booked, and initially thought there was nowhere to sit, although after loitering around for a while we managed to squeeze in somewhere. The chairs are ridiculously uncomfortable with no back support at all unless you sit right back with your legs out in front of you, so it’s not somewhere I’d want to linger for too long, but it’s a great spot for a quick one.
We weren’t sure if it was bar or table service but someone turned up to serve us soon enough. There looked to be a few cocktails available, although we just opted for a beer which was perhaps a little on the pricey side, something like €5 for around 400ml I think, but I guess you’re paying for the view. Overall, I’m glad we popped in, but I wouldn’t rush back.

My wife and I had the 65 Euro tasting of 5 marvelous ports. What a value. Our guide took his time to educate us and the ports included 2 vintage ports, a 85 and a 95. We had a variety of white, tawney, and ruby.
A wonderful experience especially when compared to the 90 Euro of 5 good, but lessor ports at Taylor. Our server spent little time with us and did not exhibit the knowledge of our host at Cruz.

We came only for the rooftop bar and cocktails made with port. It was an overcast day, but our final day and we were there.
Entry was easy. Just into the lobby and take the elevator to the top floor. The bar area is the open rooftop. There are lounge chairs and sofas or tables. There is some covering.
They have table service with a menu. I took the recommendation of our waiter and had the passionfruit cocktail. We were also served a small bowl of nuts.
The views are excellent. There was loud music and a crowd, but it was still pleasant. Everyone was in a good mood.
When it started to rain a sail opened up over the roof and we were set!
Very inexpensive and the view is excellent.

Rooftop Bar visit and Port Tasting
The rooftop bar was recommended to us by the receptionist at the hotel we were staying in and we were not disappointed.
We visited it a couple of times during our stay. The prices were reasonable and the food was good.
On the way out following the first visit we decided to do some port tasting. The guy who talked us through the different Port wines while we were tasting them made it very interesting, particularly as I knew a little bit about wine in general.
While we were finishing the port we had been tasting, he even came over to us and gave us a sample of 40 year old port, which we hadn't paid to taste, and was most welcome.

We went here as part of a trip we purchased which combined a boat trip and a port tasting. This isn’t Porto Cruz’s fault but they should not allow themselves to be associated with this package as the port tasting was just a sip of one port which when we expected a ‘tasting’ was really disappointing as most of the port houses provide a free tasting of multiple ports. We asked if we could upgrade and we couldn’t and well we felt pretty duped so just left.

Great experience in the restaurant. It was gpod we had reserved a table, because people were waiting in queue to come inside. The food was amazing and also the service. Not the cheapest, but it was worth it. In the end we had a drink on the rooftop terrace.

Unwelcoming. Unfriendly. Uninformative. We walked on off the street as wanted to specifically wanted to taste their white ports. We hadn’t booked but didn’t think that would be a problem as there appeared to be plenty of seats available. Reception staff were rude to the point of almost being hostile. We noticed that customers on pre-booked visits (eg chocolate & wine tasting ‘experiences’) received a very different level of service. We suspect staff did not value customers like us who: i) knew what they wanted, ii) had some knowledge about the product, and iii) expected to encounter professional & knowledgeable staff. Fortunately we found this elsewhere!

We have 4 people that will be in Porto in late July. We are wondering if we need to schedule a tasting at your facility in advance, or are the tastings conducted on a walk in basis? Can the party of 4 choose different tastings, or must all 4 people decide on the same option? If we do need a reservation, how do we schedule that, I do not see an option on your website.
Thank you.
