This was booked for us as part of a tour package. There are loads of port lodges to visit in the Gaia area of Porto The guide we had was well informed and obviously still enjoyed telling us about the manufacture of the product The film at the end just repeated what we had been already told Might be nice... My wife and I visited the Sandeman winery in early April. We were able to immediately sign up for an English tour, the basic tour offered, which ended with two port tastings - one red and one white. The tour guide had good English and gave a thorough explanation of the making of the different types of port. The tour... More

Again I arrived and just was lucky that I found a space in tour group. Our guide showed us around and explained the history of Sandeman and of portwine, also the different sorts of this wine. I was impressed by his knowledge of the history and also by his language skills. The cellars have a modern entrance but behind the... More

The Sandeman Cellars are interesting, and the tour guide was fluent in English so we enjoyed the tour, and the two samples that followed the tour. The souvenir shop offers the company products at discount, but we were constrained by luggage space, so we only bought a book. Although the Sandeman website is limited to adults, there were several children... More

Waited for the English speaking guide to show us round and explain the history of Port wine making. He was very informative and explained well to a large group. Enjoyed sitting with other visitors for the sampling at the end of the tour. Even found the black cape for a photo.

If you are interested in the history of Port then this is one of the places to visit-set aside one hour and marvel at the amount of Port stored here. Just one tip---do not visit on the last morning visit at about 1215--you are given two port samples at the end of your visit which you should enjoy--imagine being told... More

Was part of our bus tour package and we were quite surprised on the history and cellars with all the casks and barrels was amazing. I thought port was just red but really liked the white. The tasting was very nice.
