Vasques de Carvalho is not a big producer, and they don't have a big cave. That's what is not big there. However, the wine, the tasting experience and the service are outstanding. We really enjoyed our time there and the warm welcome from the staff. Definitely recommended.

The setting here was absolutely lovely. There are different spaces to enjoy your port flight, and we had a beautiful view of the garden. Our server was very knowledgeable and suggested which flight of port to try. She told us more about the making of port wine, and then let us ask a lot of questions! We really enjoyed the white port here, so that is what we took home!

My husband and I visited this tasting room Sept 2023. It was a wonderful tasting experience. A small space (outdoor space) and simply perfect. We only bought one bottle of tawny that day since we had 2 more days in the region which included a tour of Douro Valley. We could carry only so much wine back to the US, so we had to be selective. After going to Douro wineries and other port houses we realized that nothing compared to the quality of ports from Vasques De Carvalho! With only 12 hrs to spare before we left the country, we found our way back to the tasting room to buy as much port as our suitcases could hold! We look forward to visiting you again in the future. Until then, we might just have to purchase it for shipment to us in the US. The 20 yr tawny was our favorite! Oh, and the white ports were divine!

A small family owned winery with an intimate setting where one can sample their exquisite ports. We were given an in depth history of port production in Portugal, of the varied micro-climates of the Douro valley of the variations of port wines. Simply marvelous! We selected the aged tawny tasting and oh my they were undoubtedly the best port wines we have ever tasted! I highly recommend giving Vasques de Carvalho when visiting Porto!

This was a great place for a tasting, just off the Main Street in Vila Nova de Gaia near the "Rabbit". Sandra set up a tasting for us so that we could try the ports we wanted to. The ports they have are spectacular and there are [too] many to try :). The tasting was relaxing and most informative. Sandra patiently answered many questions we had in trying to learn more about the various ports available. I recommend making a reservation and going early in the day - and bring your wallet! They ship to the US and don't really export to the US otherwise so you may want to grab a few bottles to bring home as well. I even ordered some white ports which I don't usually drink but these were too good to pass up. An exceptionally excellent selection of ports and it was nice to see these coming from a smaller Portuguese vineyard. My overall favorites of the trip!

Wonderful experience! Not a big "cave" but a smaller producer with knowledgeable enologists who discussed Port wine production and details about each type we tried. Bruno was fantastic. We all loved the experience. If you want to see a larger cave that produces thousands and thousands of bottles a year, this is not for you. But if you want a smaller experience and a chance to taste some truly special wines and learn something in the process, this is the place for you!

Great presentation and introduction of Port wines. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable as this was our 1st port experience. We had 2 flights shared by 3 people. I recommend you sit in the back patio (if possible) as it has a nice atmosphere. CONS: a bit pricey given that they are not one of the "big" port houses. it's also not in one of the "caves" as their port storage is back at the vineyard.

An excellent port wine tasting from a small family port house. All the staff were attentive and friendly. Check the prices before you buy as the port is excellent but much pricier than anywhere else.
