- Tab H30 contributionsDo walking around the station when in PinhaoThe Pinhao Railway Station was built in the 19th century. It is worth a walk around to see 24 different tile patterns placed on every wall in 1937. The themes of the tiles represent historic scenes in the Douro Valley. This includes the grape harvest, foot-stomping, and the rabelo boats transporting wine downriver. The station also sells wine.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 September 2023
- Martyn PLondon, United Kingdom195 contributionsBeautiful station, even better train ride!A beautiful, well-preserved building, it is worth visiting for half an hour on its own account; however, we took a train from Pinhao to Regua and back and saw the beautiful views of the Douro valley as the train follows the river on a 25 minute journey each way. If you wish to take the train journey, beware! There aren't many trains and the last one is around 7pm.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 October 2023
- coh8Glasgow, United Kingdom946 contributionsLoved the tiled walls and facilities - wine shop was interestingMarvelled at the beauty of the station's tiled walls and was delighted by the clean bathroom used to freshen up before the picturesque 2h30 train journey back to Porto Sao Bento on 30 July 2022. After a long day, we strolled into the station's wine room for a limonada, white wine, sorbet and a cocktail. Although I like Ferreira white port, and it brought the sorbet to life in the cocktail, the white wine was too rough for Kathryn's palate. While very fruity, the berry sorbet (@5.5 euro) was more expensive than either of the alcoholic drinks. Server was very nice and welcoming - and the limonada would have been great with some vodka. The wine room also has an extensive collection of souvenirs to take home too.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 August 2024

The train station is wonderful. Tile murals adorn all the walls and a wonderful to behold and you can always find a taxi in front.
Taxis are frequently more affordable in Porto than Uber and more convenient in my opinion.

We came to Pinhao as we were told its a must see when touring Northern Portugal.
Don't bother.
No interest in service nearly anywhere. Want a coffee off the train, no only serving lunch (we might well have bought lunch)
Sit down for lunch, have you booked, no, no space, how long, dunno could be 10 or 30 minutes or more.
Queue for 1 hour boat trip. Get stopped as 2 hour mob get on other boat. Watch 1 hour boat go off to be told eventually its full.
So many other places to go.
Don't come here.

This has to be on your tick list when visiting Porto. The station is still working so is busy and was being restore in Oct 2021 so some of the tiles may be covered. Worth a quick look to see a magnificent display.

This is a fully functioning railway station enhanced by the series of ajuelos, or blue and white ceramic tiles depicting life in the region in the past.Doesnt begin to compete with the San Bento termus in Oports but if you havent seen them it is well worth a visit. In the main street - you may need to park some distance away.

We'd taken a Rabelo boat ride down the Douro River and took the train back from Pinhoa station. It's a regular station, small but much decorated. The tiles tell stories of the wine industry and other local events. It's well worth stopping if you're passing even if your not catching the train.

This station like many in Portugal has fine blue tiled graphics depicting scenes from the locality at the time the station opened in the 1880s. They are better than Porto’s. The place was full of passengers with trains arriving from both directions.
Very few graffiti thank goodness. It’s right in the centre. Has a restaurant and coffee bar and very helpful staff. A worthy part of Douro history.

A short visit at the old and beautiful maintain train station is a must. There is a little snack bar next to it to sit in the shade during a hot summer Douro day. Just enjoy the impression of a former time which will be even better when the old steam locomotive is passing by.

O passeio de trem ssi de pinhao e vai aonde ?
Written 30 June 2018

Cordialement, Ch.V

Hi- does the train run from Pinhao to Pocinho year-round? It looks like the tourist diesel locomotive shuts down in October. Is there a regular passenger train that will be operating in November?

Hi,
Could you tell me about how to get the train from Porto to Pinhao and are there connecting stops or other villages to visit along the way?
Written 12 July 2016
Hello, I am very sorry that I can't help you, we came in Pinhao by car. Maybe you can try Portugese railway services.
Enjoy your trip
