Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Quarteria beaches lead to and from beaches, miles of golden sand going on forever. This beach is just off the prom, which is lively during the day even in January when we went. Safe paddling and bathing. We walked the length of the beaches and off towards Vale de lobo (which is a bigger beach that end) and I have never seen such huge shells on a beach. Lovely! We actually paddled in the water up to our knees in January and all we could think was 'Why have we never had a winter holiday before??'. Gorgeous beach and gorgeous beach weather. Plenty of restaurants open in January too.

We stayed here in December 2019 & February 2020, never been on a sunny winter holiday before-having been twice now we've wondered why not? This part of Portugal has more sunshine hours than Florida & only 2.5 hours away from the UK in the same time zone.
Quarteria is a great place, long sandy beach which is so clean & tidy with regular ramp access onto the beach for people with mobility issues. You can walk for miles along the traffic-free promenade & there are lots of beach-side restaurants/cafes that you can visit if you fancy a bite to eat along the way. I recommend a visit.

The beach is great. It is clean. You can rent comfortable sunbeds with umbrella for 12-15€ / day. There are good distances between the umbrellas. The promenade behind the beach is also great - wide, clean with plenty of restaurants.

Once again we visited Quarteria from Vilamoura and again it improves as obviously the whole area is being updated everywhere looks clean, well painted and some areas being re-vamped.
The beach remains immaculate and well looked after, good enough for a world class Triathlon being done while we visited.
so whoever is in charge of the town re-vamp well done its looking good from many sides.....the connection to Vilamoura by the new walkway a few years ago has certainly worked obviously more visitors to the 'real' Portugal from its close sister.
If your in the area the beach and prom are worth a visit.

The beach looked great.
What wasn't great, was the litter and dog poo on the promenade. It was a Sunday on 13th December we went, and several times it was dangerous to be there because of the behaviour of the cyclists especially those in large groups, typically Portuguese who think it acceptable to cycle as fast as they can along the promenade without any thought for pedestrians.
It was at times like the tour de France. The council or Gnr need to look at this.
Appreciate this review will not be welcomed by those who live there, but you need to raise your game.
Awful dogs toilet of a place. And I don't blame the dogs! Humans are responsible for the animals!

"Praia da Quarteira" is a quite popular Summer destination for Portugueses and Europeans in general. A nice beach, with soft golden sands, clear waters and a modern infrastructure for tourists. Around the beach, a broad sidewalk is perfect for morning and evening long walks. Hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and plenty of small shops are seen everywhere. Perfect for families and children on vacations. Enjoy!

but lovely walking on the promenade alongside. You meet many locals, many with their dogs. Cafes n restaurants abound. Several benches to rest and watch the sunset. A good place to chill.

Beautiful place. Very quiet but plenty of places to eat, sit along the promenade and people watch, topped with fantastic beach. Everything is close to hand and ideal for us as we are beach bums. So relaxing and friendly hospitality wherever you choose to eat. Found a lovely eatery called The Hut where the owner and staff were so nice and friendly. Also nice to sit in the beach bar and people watch and look out to sea. Was our first time here but already booked again for next year.

A first time visit to Portugal so went on trip advisor to help have an insight as to where people recommended to go and to stay. Quarteria had mixed reviews but as we liked the position of the hotel Don Jose beach hotel and the fact that it had a long promenade to walk along met our needs completely and we booked it, not being disappointed.
Quarteria is a small place and the promenade, no traffic and the beautiful beach make it. There are not many shops but Villamoura a beautiful place full of restaurants and boats is a beautiful place to have a leisurely stroll is not far.
It is in October anyway a quiet place, a few restaurants and bars dotted here and there but nothing like Albufeira.
There is a bus station just off the promenade and we caught the local bus for a few Euros to Albufeira, Faro and a local market. Quarteria I believe gas it's own market on a Wednesday. .It suited our needs and will def go back
