The statue in the middle of this picturesque square is of Giovanni di Verrazzano, the man who discovered New York harbor.

The central square of Greve is very nice for a brief stroll and a look in the (expensive) touristy shops. Local cars park in the central bit of the square which isn’t so nice. Nevertheless, it’s still a very cute square in a cute town.

Don't miss the Saturday morning market on the Piazza. Shop with the locals and taste the local foods.

We had many, many pleasant experiences driving there from our villa Le Convertoie near Greve in Chianti. We loved strolling through every shop, eating desserts, drinking wine, adoring the extraordinary butcher shop.

Lively little piazza with two bars (cafes), a bakery with delicious goods, a fruit shop, a meat shop, a souvenir shop and more. A great place to watch the world go by

The beautiful Piazza Matteotti is crowded with the most wonderful variety of stalls on Saturday until 15:00....Freshest fish/seafood, cheeses in huge variety, with farm veggies and a bunch of tourist-focussed Knick-knacks together with the active periphery of cafes and bars crowded with locals and tourists...More

We walked all around to see whats in all the shops. All very unique. We purchased meats, olivies and cheeses. All offered samples. This is a must stop in Greve in Chianti.

From what I see, there are two. The Chianti Classico festival in Geve in Chianti for 2018 it is held the 6th through the 9th of September. The Panzanno wine festival one week later.
