Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Modern and touristic part of the city of Naxos. No real Cycladic identity or authenticity but a string of restaurants and souvenir shops.
The walk is nevertheless pleasant especially at the end of the day when the street comes alive.

We arrived via ferry from Santorini and departed a few days later for Paros. It was a busy harbor with ferries, pleasure boats, and excursion boats coming and going. On land, it was also busy with people coming and going by taxi and private car.
Nice harborside with cafes and restaurants, and lots of shopping. We enjoyed walking and looking because you never knew what you would see.
Very easy access to the rental car offices.

My wife and I arrived by ferry from Santorini to Naxos and we departed two days later by ferry to Mykonos. As you come into the port, you can see the Temple of Apollo, which is very impressive. When you arrive in port, you have a nice view of Old Town Naxos.

The actually beautiful Naxos is contaminated by ferries and parties. The huge ferries run their loud engines all night long, which is unbearable in the marina and the adjacent accommodations. If you like to party, you can take it up a notch with Ballermann music. Tip: get away from Naxos town as quickly as possible, or give up the whole island hopping madness altogether.

A busy and well run Seaport. Many different types of ships coming in and out all day. Easy to get a tour. Easy to get a ferry to other islands. Even with all that boat traffic, the water remains very clear.

We travelled to and from Naxos via Mykonos as many do and arrived as a bustling port was busy with the absolute plethora of cruise/fishing expedition/tour boats taking holidaymakers on trips, the bayside restaurants busy serving typical Naxos (in other word delicious) food and our ferry filling the port area with mid day travellers beating their way through those waiting to travel to Paros or Mykonos. Taxis were roaring in and out of the easy to access taxi area and the business of this little port carried on regardless despite Covid-19 restrictions and concerns, During our week's stay in Naxos, we ventured back to take in the smells and sounds of this lively area from a soft seat in a portside cafe. This is the port you want to visit. It is lively but not overly crowded. There are many souvenir shops, bakeries, restaurants, stores. It caters to everyone in every price category. Whatever you are looking for to take home, they have it.

We came from Paros. Got a taxi right away to the Nissaki hotel. For the return, we realized that we could EASILY walk along the waterfront to the hotel or back to the port, but with luggage, maybe choose a taxi.
When you arrive, to the left will be the bus station, and then further down is the walk up to the Portara.

I am not one to post bad reviews, but I hope that this would help someone (most likely a family travelling with young kids), or at least be raised to some kind of authorities around Naxos Port. This port needs more organization, Naxos is a very beautiful island, this is just awful the way you are « welcomed » from there.
If you came to Naxos by boat, be aware that if you do not have ANY transportation accommodations offered by your hotel/AirBnB or if you do not rent a car in advance, Naxos port is a NIGHTMARE!!!
The traffic is terrible, which is to be expected after a huge amount of people get off the boat. But Naxos port is very small, and the traffic road around is such that cars, taxis, buses clogged the roads! If you need to take a taxi, if you are lucky to get off the boat quickly and grab the first taxis all ready to go, then you’re good. But if you arrived after an other boat, you will find NO TAXIS on the port. The only help you have is a poor sign with 2 numbers to call the taxi company. But when you call, the operator will tell you to wait for the taxi to come back to their stop at the port. You can’t order a taxi (what we were told by the operator on the phone, that we called multiple time, because we saw several taxis coming with already a name of people that they are coming to pick up! Incredible!!! And still we were told that we couldn’t order a taxi). And there is no queuing organization for the taxis, so you need to be quick to grab the first that comes! It’s ridiculous!!! At some point it’s like we are to fight each others to get a taxi! And let me tell you that, even if you have are waiting for longer than them, with a young kid (our son just had an ear infection, so the noises around with the traffic was really awful to him), big bags, under the heat, people don’t let you at least have the taxi that is coming and that you can’t run after when you see it in the upcoming traffic. Terrible experience!!!!!!
So I would suggest to be prepared to wait at least an hour at the taxis drop off, when the traffic will slow down, and the taxis could come back from other rides.

Traveling in May. We will have a 2 hr "lay-over" in Naxos on our way to Santorini. Looking for recommendations as to where we may spend the time near the port. Maybe catch lunch and/or a cocktail in scenic environment. We will have our carry-on roller's with us... Thank you!
