This is a beautiful venue for art exhibitions. Check to see what exhibit is on offer before you go. There was a sports in art exhibition while we were there that was not of interest to some of our party. Thank goodness the gift shop is stocked exclusively with artisan merchandise! They participate in the North American Regional Museum program... More

The exhibits are constantly changing so there is always something new to see. Nice layout and very informative - knowledgeable staff. The gift shop is also very nice with items from local artists for sale. I believe the center also runs art classes. The Mariner's Museum and Noland trail are right next door so you could spend a whole day... More

Interesting exhibits...The place is smaller than expected though. 3 small gallery rooms. There was one with a photography exhibit including a movie... But nothing was playing... And didn't know if I had to turn it on or not. Was a little bummed. They have a kids play area/art center which seemed really neat and organized. If only I brought my... More

Visited today (1/8/16) as part of the Newport News Ambassador Pass program (free admission). The center currently has a small, but interesting display of "Virginia Made" art. Runs the gamut from wooden bowls & furniture to hand-cut paper art, textiles, glass, repurposed industrial pieces and much more. Two small gift shop areas where the artists sell their wares. Being local,... More

The exhibits are interesting and well displayed. Shares parking lot with Mariners Museum and is worth the short detour. The gift shop is fabulous - original crafts by regional artists plus quality books and prints. This place is small and easily doable in 30 minutes. Activities for kids sometimes.

Wife heard about the "American Scenery: Different Views in the Hudson River School Painting" exhibit that was at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center. Glad we took the time to stop by and see this exhibit. Fabulous paintings from a period in the US we will never experience again. The Arts Center presented the exhibit in a nicely organized and informative... More

I would not fly in from the orient but if you are local, this museum is well worth a visit once in a while. The current Hudson River exhibit is very worth a look. The exhibits change about every month or two so you can go back over and over.

A marvelous collection of some 120 oil paintings in the 'Hudson River School' style mostly depicting scenes in Vermont, New Hampshire and New York. Featured works by Cole, Hart, Gifford, Kensett, Cropsey and others. A very impressive collection that fills both galleries and the hallways of the museum. Nominal admission and a very nice gift shop. Located next door to... More
