This museum not only gives an in-depth account of the battle which took place here but does a great job of putting the battle into the context of the whole Civil War. The displays are straightforward and very informative with a lot of excellent imagery....More

This museum is a surprise. It is a private collection of mostly Civil War artifacts but includes Indian, WWI, WW2, and other areas of interest. For me the most amazing item was the 'dirty brown home manufactured' Confederate uniform of Private Theophilus Frank of Company...More

Not sure if this place is still open. I attempted to visit mid-day on a Tuesday in early April and the museum appeared to be "closed down". The gate was closed, no flags flying on the poles, no operating hours posted.......looked deserted. The radio information...More

This was a nice self paced tour addressing many wars. There are a lot of artifacts and photos to examine. The entrance fee is nominal and is good for a few days so you can go back later. I didn't have time to do the...More

We saw a sign that said get tickets for the museum and battle field here. We stopped and I asked if the battle field tour was included with the museum tickets. The proprietor stated "you are on the battle field". I asked again to make...More

The story of the "kids" from VMI fighting here is a strong story. Excellent museum and video. Being a history "buff" I jumped into this place head first and declared it one of the highlights of out trip! Watch the ladies at the farm house...More

There are 3 motels in the area, I'm sure one of them has a late checkout. New market battlefield museum though is under renovations. It may not be open.
