Adegem Canadian War Cemetery and Canadian-Polish War Cemetery, Adegem, Belgium
Jun. 2019
This cemetery is beautiful, well-kept and peaceful. It is lovely to see the Canadian Maple trees growing here- a sense of home for our Canadian troops. There was a thought in our family many years ago that we wished that my Uncle Peter's remains would come home to be with his family. After visits by various family members, we know that the right place is to stay is in this cemetery with his comrades.
(Rifleman Peter McCormack, New Zealand, PEI, WW2-died October 30, 1944) The Canadian-Polish War Museum in the area is well-done and a must see.

Impressive Canadian War Cemetery
Sep. 2019 • Couples
While vacationing in France, my wife and I along with another Canadian couple visited the Adegem War Cemetery where my wife’s Uncle, who died in October, 1944, is buried. He was a private with the Regina Rifle Regiment who was killed three months after being posted.

The Cemetery which was easy to find, was very well maintained and located in a quite, country-like setting.

Visiting the cemetery and the gravel site was a very somber experience; one we will forever remember.

Amazing to see the tragedy of war

Well kept military cemetery. This one is mainly Canadian war dead as per the name of the cemetery, but also contains some french, Polis and British graves. Been twice now to see a grave of a relative and always moved by the experience.

Very impressive

My great uncle is buried here He was killed September 23 1944. I was the first family member to visit his gravesite. Adegem is impeccably kept I placed his picture and a Canadian flag on the grave. There is a boom where you can look up the name and it details the row numbers for you

Uncle's Impressive Memorial W.W.2
Apr. 2017 • Solo
There is no direct bus service so we had to walk-hitch hike about 10 Km
from the Brugge bus stop at Maldegem village. We were welcomed by the 2
friendly drivers who helped us there and back..
The Cemetery is impeccably groomed by grateful locals. A truly sobering, sad
experience .. our uncle was just 17 yrs.. Stormont & Glengary .. Ontario..
There is a visitor's book at the rear. Make the effort, you will be glad and so proud.

Sober, but impressive Canadian Cemetery

This goes without saying: the place does what it is meant for, making you aware of the hard fighting to liberate the Scheldt Estuary.
We had a trip with KAMPOS activiteiten (check Facebook) and had a very, very interesting tour and stories of the fallen soldiers and battlefield.

Commenting on a cemetery is a very sombre thing to do. There is an interesting side to looking at so many grave stones. However it is very sobering and sad to see so many burials. It just shows what a tragic waste of life happened in the great war.

Beautiful, Peaceful!! My Father lies there and my Mothers ahes are also there. So beautifully looked after and visited often by the wonderful Belgian people who keep the memory of those brave men alive..Very close to The Canadian and Polish War Museum at Adagem.

This is a nice, quiet and neat cemetery. It seems so peaceful. However, on some occasions it can get really busy (memorials etc.).

Maple Trees in Belgium
Sep. 2012 • Family
We visited England & Belgium in late Sept. 2010 & it wasn't until we drove up to the cemetery that I realized that Europe lacks in fall colours but not at the cemetery. Maple Trees were planted all around the cemetery & they were very colourful. Very well maintained & such a peaceful spot. Beautiful & quite emotional for me as this will probably be the only time I get to visit my grandfathers' grave.
