This is a great way to hike a volcano without killing yourself. We hiked the Maderas Volcano on Ometepe and came back soaked, muddy, and exhausted. However this hike is nothing like that. You drive up to the top of the volcano via a utility service road and then leisurely stroll along a well maintained, mostly level path for a... More

We went to Mombacho and did the coffee tour and went up to the cloud forest. Tiger was our guide and he was AWESOME. He was so great with our three kids. Leche was our driver and he also came in the cloud forest with us and looked for animals. We saw a baby sloth up close and found green... More

A bit of a wait to see it in the evening but glad I got to see it as I don't know when I will get to see an active volcano again! I would be cautious if you have respiratory issues as it is very smoky and even with a good set of lungs it was difficult to breath easily.

Nice walk around the crater with beautiful view over masaya volcano, Laguna appoyo Nicaragua lake and Granada! The guide was really good and explained many things about the volcano, flora and fauna

We spent a hot Sunday afternoon on the Mombacho volcano and enjoyed every minute of it! Unless you are in fantastic shape, pay the extra and take the transport up and down.... It's like 5km of steep mountain side (mostly cobbled road though) so I don't recommend walking in the Nicaraguan heat for the average person. The views of Granada... More

We went with Eco Adventure Tours and booked with the Cafe Las Flores which adjoins the hotel Plaza Colon, right on the main square in Granada. Picked up at 8am and this was a threat option to do the 2.5 hour El Tigrillo tour. Quite easy walk. Guide (Augustin) was outstanding - spoke great English language, very knowledgeable not only... We took the "medium" difficulty, 3 hour tour. Though the tour is rated medium difficulty, be prepared for a lot of climbing, so wear good hiking shoes. The vistas from different sides of the mountain were beautiful and let you experience the surrounding area and climates. Temperatures on different sides of the mountains varied significantly but there was no need... More

We took the easy trail around the crater that is mostly flat with a few gentle ups and downs. It is mostly wooded with one open area at the fumeroles with views to Granada and the islets. We saw a sloth, a snake, and some birds. It was a nice walk took about an hour.

I love anything to do with volcanos. Mombacho is an inactive volcano whose caldera is not visible due to the growth of the rainforest. You get a very nice walk in the woods ( can be hot), stunning vistas of the country side, lake Nicaragua, and two fumaroles. So the visit was a success but i would have liked more... More
