We chose to hike up from the entrance to get to the top where the actual hiking starts instead of paying $20 USD pp for the bus ride up. We didn't hire a tour company; we took a taxi to the park from our hotel in Granada for $10 USD. It was challenging with the constant 45 degree incline. I... More

We took the short hike but even this was really nice, we got a lot of information on the plants and animals from our guide. The view was absolutely amazing. Great experience!

We had the misfortune of going to Mombacho when the crater was shrouded in clouds and the winds were howling (the base was warm and sunny). We should have been better prepared and brought sweaters and rain jackets, so our stay was not entirely comfortable. The entrance fees to the park are expensive in my opinion - $20 USD per... More

We were collected from our hotel by a guide from Cafe des Flores who was friendly enough and told us a little about the environment. Similar to another reviewer's experience, he failed to spot howler monkeys in the tree above us and didn't seem very interested in them, but I suppose he sees them all the time. We did the... More

I went with a tour to Mambacho Volcano cloud forest. Our bus was approx 30 hikers. We needed to wait for 4WD to take us half way up which took about 30 minutes until the driver arrived. We then waited another 30 minutes to get to the top. Our guide only knew that the national sport of Nicaragua is baseball... More

Whether you walk, hike, or zipline, you should visit Granada's volcano. The tours are generally fantastic. On a clear day, there are sweeping vistas of Lake Nicaragua, Laguna de Apoyo, Las Isletas and much more. We enjoyed a guided tour, learning all about the flora and fauna and the two types of forest that we were able to experience. So... More

This is weather dependent. You won't see those lovely views if the cloud descends. There are three walks you can do; a short self-guided walk around the crater, a longer walk around two craters and the longest walk around three craters (Mombach has five!). The latter two walks require a guide. We opted for walk #2, paid more money, collected... More
