Our son is learning about Slavery and abolitionism at school at the moment so on our way home to Baltimore after a weekend in WDC we wanted to stop by Mount Vernon. We purchased tickets to see the mansion and had the Enslaved People tour with the fantastic, Elizabeth. She was incredibly knowledgeable and made the tour interesting and thought... More

Last few hours of our vacation before boarding a flight home we ventured here early on Sunday morning while the crowds were still not huge. We especially liked the location and views of the Potomac River as we toured the gardens, tombs, home, orchards, and other buildings on this property. It is certainly a peaceful setting. There are a few... More

We went on a Sunday and spent 2 1/2 hours touring. We would have stayed longer but it was a breezy, overcast day so a bit chilly. A lot of "things to see" are outdoors so we moved quickly through those areas. I suggest you start your tour with the film that is shown in the Orientation Center. The first... More

We took the Metro and bus from D.C. which was kind of a hassle, but the grounds are very pretty. The views from the mansion are gorgeous and provided a nice break from the quick pace of Washington DC. I can say that I've been there but don't know if I'll return.

Was a wonderful time. Husband did not want to go, he thought would be boring. He loved it. So much great info. Beautiful landscape. A lot of walking. Can not express the feeling of paying our respect to George Washington. A must do!!!!!

This is a tour that you pay for. You can reserve your time a save a couple bucks by ordering tickets online. The grounds are kept very nice and are well labeled with information. The site is beautiful. You should plan 3-4 hours at a minimum! There is a great a Washington museum to walk through on your way out.

spent most of the day here and didn't get to see it all plus some things are seasonal and start in April. Lots and lots of walking. The house requires a tour guide and when you buy your ticket it will have a time for the tour. Ours was 2:10 and we actually stood in line and toured about 30... More

The standard tour is very informative. No photos in the house. The grounds are beautiful. My wife and I are in our 60's. The tour is ideal for those who are interested in history.

You get to know the real history of the United States, the way farming was first established as well as slaves coworkers with non slaves functioned It shows the modest kind of living of President Washington and have to admire the visionary way He had The bad thing is that is always crowded but is a great view of the... More than 30 minutes from the National Mall, but such an awesome attraction. The tour is quick but so informative and the caretakers have done a great job of maintaining plenty of pieces from Washington's time. Standing in front of his final resting place is an experience on its own; learning "the rest of the story" through the informative videos... More
