This small park preserves portions of the much-larger battlefield. Stop at the interpretive center and get the free map showing the loop roads and trails. Hundreds of earthworks/trenches and gun positions remain to be seen from the car. Stop and view the few monuments to the fallen soldiers of both armies.

This is a much smaller battlefield than I expected. It's one loop with a few pull offs where you can stop and listen to a recorded message. You can either drive or walk. Cold Harbor is close to Richmond, so if you only have an hour or so, you can squeeze it in.

Once again the NPS wins with this great site. Best for a nice day where you can walk around their various trails. The small visitor centre has a good electric map story and a nice shop (and bathrooms). Park up the car and walk around the woods of battle. A great afternoon out.

Fantastic experience, full of history. I did know of the battle, but not very much. I wish I read about it before I went I think it would have really help put everything in prospective. I highly recommend walking the trails(The Extended Trail) it was amazing to see all the trenches along with walking the exact trails that many solider... More

My first visit to Cold Harbor was the day after Christmas. I nearly had it to myself, and saw as many deer as people. Cold Harbor was a brutal battle. I recommend reading up on the battle itself before your visit, because walking it now it's hard to imagine what happened there. Take the time to hike the long trail... More

This park is near by and GW and I walk the trails (easily a mile route) very often. Mostly shade and trails go right where the soldiers were. We have deep respect for the sacrifices here.

We visited the Cold Harbor Battlefield on our way to the Outer Banks. We were traveling with dogs, and this was perfect as it was primarily outdoors. This battlefield has amazingly preserved trenches from the war. Standing next to the trenches really helps you imagine a day in the life of a soldier. Each of the three sites has information... Stopped by this battlefield while heading back to North Carolina. My 5x great grandfather fought here so I've always wanted to visit. There wasn't much to see here in the way of artifacts and monuments so in that respect it was disappointing. We did enjoy the walking trail though. Its a nice walk through the battlefield with several stops along... More

If you have ever wanted to experience the feeling of being alone in the Civil War, this is the place you need to visit. The day we visited, there was one other person in the battlefield area. The NPS Visitor's Center features an electric map featuring troop movements in both the 1862 and 1864 battles. The map makes the battle... More

This is a very good place to see one of the bloodiest battles of the civil wars. The trails are well marked and there are signs along the way explaining what you are looking at. Even though I live nearby, it is a good place to take a walk on a nice evening.
