On May 5, 2017, after driving through lovely rolling hills through the mountains, we pulled into Hungry Mother State park & the first campground (Camp Burson) with our 20' travel trailer. Got a nice, level spot right near the creek & bath house. Rate for full hook-up was about $43 a night, including tax, at this time.Park host Joyce was... More

My husband and I stayed in Marion and wanted to do an easy run the night before hiking Mount Rogers. We found Hungry Mother and ran Molly’s Knob. It was a nice park with easy access, good parking, and moderately maintained trails. We ran in the evening so there wasn’t anyone else out, but we did get to enjoy the... More

We used to tent camp at Hungry Mother years ago when our daughter was younger. We decided it was time to come back ! Empty nesters now so we rented cabin #9 for three nights. It is the only one bedroom in the loop. There is one more one bedroom that's an original CCC build down by the lake. The... More

Your review made me want to drive down to the park and stay now. Thank you. I am always happy to hear that our visitors feel that the park has held up after so many years. I was particularly taken by your comment that the lake seemed larger since in my experience, as I get older things look smaller. I... More

This is a nice quiet state park. We like the cabins and the fact that you can get a pet friendly cabin. Cabins are basic but clean and have comfortable beds, clean bathroom and kitchen. Lots to do in this area.

This park is located just seven or so miles from my house. Although I have traveled all over the world, I still find Hungry Mother to be one of my favorite spots to go and relax. There is so many things to do and enjoy. During the summer months they have live music in the gazebo every Friday night. They... More

My husband & I drove two hours yesterday to enjoy a lake side picnic at HMSP. During the week, and esp on a cloudy day, there are very few people in the park. So plenty of spots to choose from to sit, eat and watch the ducks. We hiked about 3 miles along the lake and dam. Even saw an... More

Another beautiful spot tucked away in SWVA. I highly recommend coming by and taking some hikes around the lake. If you are a road biker, I would recommend you absolutely come visit the park! You can see some amazing routes by going to the parks Triathlon event page at mountaindo-triathlon.com

We have camped here 4 different times and had consistent great experiences. There is plenty to do for those that enjoy boating, hiking, geocaching. The office has tons of games and books you can check out. Swimming, when open, is nice as well. CLEAN BATH HOUSE with large unisex single shower/ changing area at B loop, right on the river.

My wife and I are looking for getaways for the summer and found this gem. Office staff friendly and very helpful. Cabins all looked like places we would stay whether it was just us or with the grand and great grandkids. Nice size lake with all types of small boats available to rent.
