This museum is part of Old City Cemetary. Although I was particularly interested in seeing the heritage roses in bloom, this small building was very interesting with a living history recording explaining the medical procedures of the Civil War period. The quiet of the cemetery, the fragrance of flowers in bloom all added to the experience. Early summer is a... More

This will really give you an eye opening look at medical procedures during the 1860s. Just push the button and get a tour back in time to the civil war at one of the busiest medical centers in this city of Lynchburg. Lynchburg just happened to have 39 hospitals during this time just to handle the wounded from the battlefields... More

Enjoyed the History of the Pest House in the Old City Cemetery. Seeing the items in the house opened up some questions from my kids. They got to see how a trip to the doctor's was like back in old days.

Lived in Lynchburg for 3 years and just now discovered this very interesting medical museum. A fun, relaxed activity for a weekend afternoon.

We combined a visit to the Pest House Museum with a tour of the Lynchburg Cemetery all organised by Karen and her team. This is a very special place full of history and all the team there combine enthusiasm with knowledge to make this a great visit. We were there for two hours and could have stayed longer. We missed... More

We learned a lot about early 19th century medical pracitices when we visited this location. The Doctor who operated this facility was very important to the community and as a Quaker he saved a lot of lives impacted by the war. He was way ahead of his time in medical innovation.

This cemetery is so enjoyable you may run into school groups here for school trips. This isn't just a cemetery, it is a living museum. There is always something going on here. It is so picturesque you may see a wedding in the small, charming chapel. There is a small museum and numerous display buildings here as well as a... More
