White's Ferry provides a much needed service. It cuts off about 30 minutes if your timing is right. The staff are always friendly and helpful. They may not always be chatty, but they have a lot of work to do, especially if it's busy.

This ferry has been in operation for a long time. We enjoy the color of the operators and try to imagine how it operated in the 1800's. Many take this as a commuter shortcut. We take it between commuter times as a unique experience

This is a great way to get across the Potomac from Virginia to Maryland. Nice rural scenery and roads. Beats having to fight the Beltway traffic.

I once was told the captain of the Ferry performs over a 100 weddings a year on the Ferry! Its the only show in town, but it always gets you to Maryland!

If you have a chance, and the time, travel between VA and MD via White's Ferry. It's fairly inexpensive and a great way to see the historical Potomac River. The boat we were on was the "Jubal Early" and the crew were very friendly! I noticed on the MD side you can utilize a picnic are, rent canoes, etc. Lot's... More

Your car will feel loved and pampered if you take the historic, leisurely White's ferry. It's a winding, quiet road through western Montgomery County, MD onto the wooden ferry over to Leesburg, Va. Enjoy a small, but special part of American History!

Myself and my friend were driving and came across this ferry, it was a really efficient arrangement and after the crossing, one of the side had the historic details. The ferry carries multiple cars and is always not full, but this travel route from Leesburg to Gaithesburg this is a nice interlude.
