golf and stay one night
May 2021
Booked a round of golf and a one night stay in May.
It's a 12 hole course...We're not great golfers, myself average at best, so this was a good course for me.
Everything was super clean, clubhouse and cart. My only complaint was getting from the 9th hole to the 10th should be marked better, confusing at best.
The room was good, had a small fridge.
Check in and check out was good and they were really helpful

False advertising!!
Jun. 2021
We stayed at horseshoe resort June 21 …23 2021 and the pool and hot tub were Not open!, when we called to book we asked “is Everything Open?” Yes..everything is open you just have to eat outdoors..ok no problem so we booked. We stayed there last September as well and enjoyed ALL the amenities..pool n hot tub were awesome. Although my husband was woken up at 6am from a spider bite on the arm while in bed…they did refund us the night..so we took the chance and booked again with them this June. But on arrival the pool and hot tub were empty..that was very disappointing because we asked if Everything was Open!! not impressed . When we got the invoice emailed today we noticed this $34.95 RAF fee so it was an extra $104.85 add to our bill ..we called and they inform us it’s for the Wi fi and parking and the coffee and tea in your room etc!, wow on their website it says “free parking..free Wi fi !!!!and free coffee and tea in your room? Lies!!! So they charge you $34.95 a night for your parking ..wi fi and coffee n room …and I would call that “false advertising “ we are not impressed and won’t return…so people just beware! :(

Reservation Mix up
Mar. 2021
Due to an unfortunate mix up in reservations , our annual family trip to Horseshoe Ski Resort could have been a disaster - but Jeff F. ( Room Division Manager ) came to our rescue. His extremely friendly cheerful manner eased our anxieties - he was able to give us upgraded accommodations and for the dates that we wanted! He is the main reason that we enjoyed our trip so much! Jeff is a real asset to Horseshoe Resort. I hope his efforts are noted by management!

Ewww!!
Feb. 2021
I had reserved 4 slopeside condos (all in my name and using my credit card). Check in was a nightmare. Receptionist said I had already checked in, obviously not. Took over twenty minutes to straighten out. When we get to our condo , someone else is already there, back to reception. Another 20 minutes. Condos were a disgrace. Bedsheets were bloodstained, we just picked the cleanest bed to sleep in. Dried on food stuck on plates in the cupboard, toothpaste spit in the sinks, food and garbage left in fridge, food crumbs all over counter. Walkways not maintained, one of our party fell going out of the hotel to the skating rink on build up of ice. Not worth the money that is charged.

A great place to ski.
Mar. 2021
We have been skiing here for about 25 years, with a year off here and there. The staff here are part of what continues to make the experience nice. They are all incredibly friendly and well trained. The ski hills are maintained pretty well, too. Overall, we enjoy our visits here!

Sorry to see Horseshoe’s Nordic operation in decline
Feb. 2021
We’ve been Nordic skiing at Horseshoe with family and friends for decades because it had the most varied, extensive and prettiest trails near the GTA and a nice family-friendly atmosphere. Although the grooming was never on par with nearby Hardwood Hills, the trails were rarely crowded and the trail passes were reasonably priced. For all these pros we’ve kept going even as the trails have been reduced in number and variety. However, recently we’ve had increasingly negative experiences with yesterday hitting an all-time low, despite the gorgeous day. Trail prices had already increased during COVID restrictions but with the Family Day weekend they jacked them up another $5, just because. The grooming was mediocre, the portable bathrooms dirty and once again there were all types of non-skiers all over the trails, including some walking in blind spots on steep hills! For safety reasons combined with the increased cost we won’t be going back on weekends. Such a shame to watch the decline of what could have been developed into a premier Nordic destination.

Poor grooming and expensive.
Feb. 2021 • Friends
Cross country skied on a Sunday. Trails had not been groomed since the day before so all the more interesting downhills were glazed, rutted and needlessly dangerous. This in spite of abundant snow. It's the most expensive place to ski but for the 2nd, and kadtvgime, this season grooming has been poor compared to Hardwood and Highland.

Downhill Cycling is NOT for beginners
Aug. 2020
We traveled for a day trip to enjoy the downhill cycling and nearby cycling paths. We called ahead to ensure that the downhill cycling was for a skill levels since we had never tried this before and wanted to ensure that we would be comfortable and enjoy the day. We were assured that there were beginner runs. We also asked if you needed particular type of bike. We were told that any type of bike is acceptable. When we arrived we asked the lift operator the same questions. ...Same answers and he assured us that beginner paths were clearly marked. When paying our $30 each, videos showed that the downhill cycling was for all levels. When we reached the top of the hill, paths were NOT clearly marked. There was confusion between ski (not taken down from winter) and cycling trail signs. The first incline to get to any path was very steep and we had to walk our bikes down. Most riders had fat tires. All trails were steep, sandy and stony (i.e. unstable). After two runs we left while we were ahead with no broken bones!!! A lot of money for three people to do two runs. We should have stuck with the free trails on the other side of the property.

Disappointed
Sep. 2020
We booked a 2 bedroom condo, the accommodations were lovely, the services were very poor. Due to prior commitments, phone and wifi, were specifically mentioned during booking, check in, and unfortunately neither were functioning.
Ultimately, our stay was cut short due to the lack of availability.
The Resort was very clean, Covid rules applied. Pools were open and managed so everyone had an opportunity to enjoy. Spa was either closed or very limited hours, which should have been mentioned during booking, as this was one or must haves. Food was pricey, then again, it's a resort. Many restaurants available within a 20 minute drive.

Schitts Creek
Sep. 2020 • Family
In effort to have a last weekend trip with the kids I thought we could do Tree Top Trekking. Our local location in Stouffville was completely booked but Barrie had some openings first thing Saturday am. I thought to just book a night at Horseshoe as the kids had a 9 am Saturday and were looking very forward to it. The day before we could partake in the mini golf, gem finding, canoes, swimming etc. We arrived in our room and I went to the bathroom and noticed two sets of fake eyelashes above the toilet on the shelf. So gross!!!! We had literally just come in and dropped our bags and planned on heading to mini putt. We spoke to the manager who agreed that was disgusting and immediately sent staff to clean but I am seriously mortified especially during COVID-19 where I am already concerned enough. We were offered free mini putt. Afterwards, I spoke to the front desk and I didn’t care about paying for an upgrade I just didn’t want our room. I was told nothing was available. On my search for ice I noticed a loft room being cleaned and available. I am still waiting 6 hours later for an update on this loft room. Not holding my breath. Anyhow. I am type A personality. I booked last minute and asked if I need to pre book any activities in advance and was told no both in email and on the phone. It was not necessary. Sure enough I arrive and you have to book the pool in advance for a one hour slot. Honestly I have my own pool at home and we could care less to swim in a public pool, however, it was freezing outside. There is 1 restaurant and literally nothing to do. Such a shame. The room itself looks like my 5 year old painted the room. No joke worse than Schitts Creek. Just my luck when I book an exciting stay cay. At least the kids don’t notice this and they are enjoying this all. Who I do it for...we’re currently at the nearby drive in theatre.
